This role works closely with application teams, developers, system administrators, and infrastructure teams to support Epic operations, upgrades, and optimization initiatives in a healthcare environment.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform core Epic database administration functions, including monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IRIS databasesSupport Epic upgrades, environment refreshes, and routine system health checksManage database performance, security, and data integrity across multiple Epic environments (Production, Test, Training, etc.)Collaborate with Epic application teams and technical partners to quickly resolve system and performance issuesExecute, document, and follow standard change management proceduresProvide proactive recommendations to improve performance, reliability, and environment stabilityTest, validate, and document disaster recovery and business continuity proceduresMaintain accurate operational documentation and runbooksRequired QualificationsEpic Operational Database Administration (ODBA) Certification (required)Bachelor's degree or 5-7 years of equivalent professional experienceMinimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as an Epic Database Administrator in a healthcare IT environmentStrong experience supporting large-scale Epic production environmentsTechnical SkillsStrong Linux/Unix administration skillsProficiency in shell scriptingExperience using command-line tools and utilities such as awk, sed, and PerlKnowledge of Epic IRIS database architecture and administrationExperience with Epic ECP (Enterprise Cache Protocol) is a plus, but not requiredAbout the DepartmentHealthIT provides the best health information technology tools that support Vanderbilt University Medical Center's mission of:Delivering distinctively personalized careImproving the health care of individuals and communities regionally, nationally and internationallyProviding transformative learning programsSupporting compelling discoveriesOur tools, which form the digital arteries of VUMC, are either developed in-house by our innovative product teams or selected from the most cutting-edge solutions available in today's ever-changing marketplace.
