Electrical Engineer (General)

Position SummaryThe Electrical Engineer – Power Innovation supports the safe, reliable, and efficient commissioning and startup of power generation and energy systems. This role provides electrical engineering expertise throughout pre-commissioning, commissioning, and turnover, ensuring systems are properly tested, verified, and ready for operation.ResponsibilitiesProvide electrical engineering support across commissioning, startup, and system turnover phasesLead and support electrical commissioning activities, including testing, verification, and troubleshooting of:Switchgear, transformers, generators, and associated systemsProtection relays and control systemsValidate power system studies (short circuit, coordination, arc flash) and ensure alignment with as-built conditions prior to energizationExecute and oversee electrical testing activities (e.g., insulation resistance, hi-pot, relay testing, functional verification)Support pre-commissioning activities, including loop checks, calibration, and protection system verificationCoordinate and participate in FAT, SAT, PSSR, and RFSU processes to ensure systems meet requirements for startup and turnoverCollaborate with Project Management, Construction, Commissioning, Controls, and Operations teams to ensure aligned execution and system readinessWork directly in the field to support testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution during commissioning and startupEnsure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and company safety requirementsSupport BESS and power generation system integration, including system-level testing and performance validationDevelop and maintain commissioning documentation, including ITRs, test records, redlines, and turnover packagesIdentify, track, and drive resolution of punch list items prior to system handoverCoordinate with vendors to support installation, testing, and commissioning activitiesPromote continuous improvement and support development of standardized commissioning processes and toolsMentor and support development of junior engineersOther duties as assignedRequired QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited), or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license4+ years of experience in electrical engineering, power systems, or commissioning in power generation, industrial, or related industriesWorking knowledge of:Electrical power systems and equipment (switchgear, transformers, generators)Electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and control systemsCommissioning, testing, and startup processesPreferred QualificationsProfessional Engineer (P.E.) license or actively pursuingExperience with power generation, data centers, or BESS systemsExperience supporting or leading commissioning and startup activitiesFamiliarity with FAT/SAT execution and turnover processesTechnical SkillsProficiency with power system analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, MATLAB, or similar)Experience with protection relay testing and electrical test equipment (e.g., Omicron, Doble, Megger)Understanding of:Protection coordination and arc flash analysisGrid integration and energy storage systemsDCS/SCADA systems and electrical integrationWork EnvironmentField-based role supporting active construction, commissioning, and startup environmentsRequires the ability to work in industrial settings and follow all required safety protocols
