Regional Coordinator - Exceptional ChildrenQualifications:1. Master's degree from an accredited college/university2. Specialized training in special education curriculum and instruction3. At least five years of successful teaching experience as a special education teacher, specialist, or school psychologist in the education of individuals with special education needs3. A valid teaching certificate in North Carolina4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptableReports to: Director of Special EducationSupervises: (N/A)Job Goal: The regional coordinator assists in developing, coordinating, and monitoring programs for special education. Assists in the development and implementation of EC district policies. Provides leadership in articulatingand coordinating programs throughout district organizational levels, including providing instructional coaching when appropriate. Monitors and support EC Director in the evaluation of compliance-related matters.Will work as a colleague alongside school staff in coordinating the successful implementation of district initiatives, programs, and curriculum as aligned with the NC Standard Course of Study. The regional coordinator will coach teachers in developing strategies and techniquesfor assessment and increasing student achievement. The regional coordinator will assist administrators with the effectiveness of the implementation of initiatives and strategies for instruction.Performance Responsibilities:1. Follows all rules, policies, and procedures of Carteret County Public Schools along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school issues.2. Develops, coordinates, and assists in supervising programs for special education students.3. Assists in the development and implementation of district policies.4. Provides leadership in articulating and coordinating programs throughout district organizational levels.5. Assists site level administrators with procedural practices around policy and compliance.6. Monitors and supports the Exceptional Children Director in the evaluation of compliance-related matters.7. Informally observes, consults with, and assists EC teachers with designated instruction.8. Assists with planning and coordinating programs, curricular resources, and assists in evaluating the effectiveness of programs for individuals with exceptional needs.9. Provides coordination, consultation, and program development in assigned areas.10. Assists in planning and implementation of staff development, program development, and innovation of special methods.11. Participates as a member of the IEP Team as appropriate.12. Assists special education personnel in implementing and coordinating services in the IEP.13. Monitors curriculum, material, and methodology in area(s) of expertise.14. Serves as a resource in the identification, selection, and use of instructional materials.15. Assists special educational personnel in the development and implementation of transition services for special education students and in development appropriate, meaningful Individual Transition Plans (ITP) for students 16 yearsof age or older.16. Maintains knowledge of current laws and regulations pertaining to individuals with exceptional needs through attendance at meetings, in-service programs, conferences, and reading current literature.17. Participates in compliance, focused monitoring, and technical assistance reviews.18. Demonstrates willingness to assume leadership roles.19. Encourages ongoing professional growth for all teachers.20. Develops and maintains confidential relationships with teachers and administrators.21. Performs duties as assigned by the Exceptional Children Director.22. Participates fully in professional development for regional coordinators.23. Work collaboratively and collegially with teachers, school administrators, and district leaders.24. Position is contingent on finishing all required duties and may involve minimal extended employment beyond the school year.? Physical ability (able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally) and dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, such as, walk, lift, stoop, stand, grasp, kneel, crouch, and key requiring repetitive motions.
