Learn more and explore benefits at www.duq.edu/benefitsLocation: College of Liberal ArtsPosition Status: Full-time (35 hours perweek)Hours: Generally Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., but may varybased on operational need.Position Number: 223510/10-1166FLSA Status: ExemptPOSITIONSUMMARY:Under the general direction of the VicePresident, Dean, or Senior Department Head, the Academic Business Director isresponsible for managing and controlling accounting, budgeting, auditing andother financial or related functions to ensure the financial integrity of amajor work unit. The Academic Business Director will manage personnel andoperational matters, which may include supervising professional staff. Inaddition, the Academic Business Director may be responsible for coordinatingone or more other administrative tasks within the College/School, as assigned.DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:(Thislist is neither absolute nor restrictive, but indicates approximate duties andresponsibilities which may be redefined pursuant to operational needs.)Projectsfinancial needs and oversees annual budget development. Develop strategic planfor annual budget. Strategic planning, including forecasting for operationaland personnel salary decisions for School/College. Anticipate needs of theSchool/College and implement strategies to address. Oversight of multipleoperating budgets which may total more than $20 million. Signature authorityfor purchasing and contracts up to $24,999.99. Audits grants and foundationbudgets.Ensuresefficient coordination of various department and subsidiary financial accountsby designing budgeting systems and records which are compatible with theUniversity's accounting and reporting systems.Advisesmanagement regarding financial decisions by providing accurate informationregarding the financial status of individual accounts and interpretingUniversity financial reports. Prepares detailed budget reports on a monthly,quarterly and yearly basis; audits current procedures to monitor and improveefficiency of operations.Collectsand analyzes financial and other statistical data for the preparation offinancial and non-financial reports; establishes reporting deadlines for thoseproviding data for these reports. Prepares various reports for seniorleadership.Supervisesall accounting functions to ensure fiscal year is closed out properly.Servesas liaison to various offices on campus which may include, the Department ofPlanning and Budget, the Office of the Controller, Human Resources, Payroll,and Office of the Associate Provost for Administration,Mayserve as liaison to Human Resources and Payroll. Main point of contact for allCollege/School staff on all human resources and payroll related matters.Processes employment and payroll related documents. Prepares employmentcontracts. May support the Promotion & Tenure process.Onboard newemployees.Assistsfaculty and staff with interpretation of University policies and procedures,may include creating formal training sessions; coordinate P-Card activities.Maycoordinate building administrative functions and/or computing and technologyneeds for the College/School.Providesexcellent customer service through interactions with department staff,University officials, visitors, vendors, and other internal/external contacts.May complete various industry surveys.Maysupervise, guide, and direct the work of others.Mayguide and direct department administrative assistants with budgetresponsibilities. May provide the direct supervisor with feedback onperformance related to financial and budget responsibilities.Mayrepresent College/School by participating on committees, attending meetings andoutside functions.Remainscompetent and current through self-directed professional reading, developingprofessional contacts with colleagues, attending professional developmentcourses, and attending training and/or courses as required.Performsrelated duties and responsibilities as assigned.REQUIREMENTS:Minimum qualifications:Work requires a minimum of aBachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution with major coursework in accounting, finance, business administration, or closely related fieldof study and a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible and relatedbudget and personnel management experience within a higher educationenvironment.Preferred qualifications:An advanced degree (MBA) and 7-10years of related experience is preferred and highly desirable.Alternatively, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combinationof experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilitiesrequired to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is notlimited to, the following:Knowledge of management and supervision practices and techniques;Knowledgeof accounting and budgetary theory, principles and practices;Knowledgeof state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to departmental budgetsand accounting practices;Skill in applying accounting and financialmanagement principles;Abilityto work independently on complex and confidential issues related to theday-to-day operations of a department.Knowledgeof Human Resources, Purchasing and Payroll systems required.Strongleadership, supervisory, and communication skills.Strongcomputer skills, including knowledge of the entire MS Office Suite. Advancedskill in the use of MS Excel for the development of spreadsheets and managementreports using graphs and charts is required. Ability to use an ERP (EnterpriseResource Planning), experience with Ellucian Banner preferred.Effectiveorganizational and administrative skills required.Ability to initiate and follow through withwork responsibilities and to meet deadlines.Ability toestablish and maintain effective working relationships with the UniversityCommunity.Ability and willingness to contribute actively to the mission of the Universityand to respect the Spiritan Catholic identity of Duquesne University.
