Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:Ensures Department services are provided with exceptional customer service and the highest level of ethical standards. Connects, disconnects, repairs and replaces low voltage services to customer facilities. Constructs, maintains, and makes repairs on overhead and underground street lighting systems. Works on overhead and underground low voltage equipment in the electrical distribution system. Works on poles connecting risers and making energized low voltage taps using established methods. Constructs and maintains underground duct lines, vaults, and poll risers. Assists overhead and underground crews in the installation, repair and maintenance of the electrical transmission and distribution system. Reads and interprets electrical plans and maps. Tests new and repaired transformers and switches for reliability by testing and filtering transformer oil and using other standardized test methods. Drives vehicles such as line truck, digger/derrick, work truck pulling cable trailer or other City vehicles to job sites. Assumes responsibility for ensuring the duties of this position are performed in a safe, efficient manner. Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation requires. Minimum RequirementsAn equivalent combination of experience and education sufficient to perform the essential job functions and provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. ExperienceTwo years experience assisting in construction and repair work of an electric utility system, one year of which must demonstrate documented experience working on low voltage systems in an electric utility. Education/TrainingGraduation from high school or attainment of GED or CHSPE certificate. Successful completion of the GWP apprenticeship two week pole climbing school, or graduation, with certification from a comparable accredited pole climbing school. License(s)/Certification(s)Valid California Class A driver's license. Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of:Applicable safety rules, practices and procedures. Ability to:Provide exceptional customer service to employees and vendors. Carry out verbal instructions. Climb power poles. Communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
