Research Engineer, Intelligent Software Systems

Summary:Fast-growing applied AI startup is looking to continue building out its research organization in San Francisco and New York. The company develops advanced AI agents used by Fortune 500 customers to analyze complex enterprise environments and address critical security issues.This role sits at the intersection of AI, automated reasoning, and software analysis. You will conduct original research, build working prototypes, and collaborate with engineering teams to translate successful ideas into a production AI platform.Our target profile will have hands-on experience applying AI/ML to code reasoning or code generation, along with depth in areas such as static analysis, dynamic analysis, formal verification, automated testing, or fuzzing. You should be comfortable operating independently in an ambiguous research environment where initial ideas may need to be tested, reconsidered, and replaced quickly.Qualifications:Automated Reasoning: Hands-on experience with static or dynamic program analysis, formal verification, automated testing, or fuzzing.AI for Software: Demonstrated experience developing or applying AI/ML techniques to code reasoning, code generation, or software analysis problems.Research Depth: Published research at recognized conferences or in peer-reviewed journals, with the ability to move from an initial hypothesis through experimentation and working prototypes.Experimental Ability: Experience designing rigorous testing strategies that validate assumptions, expose failure modes, and stress-test systems under development.Independent Execution: Ability to identify important problems, propose solutions, and execute proactively without relying on a predefined research playbook.Research-to-Production: Interest in collaborating with engineering and product teams to translate research findings into real production systems.Cybersecurity: Experience with vulnerability classes, exploit techniques, secure software design, or infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, or CDK is a strong plus.About Us:Greylock is an early-stage investor in hundreds of remarkable companies including Airbnb, LinkedIn, Dropbox, Workday, Cloudera, Facebook, Instagram, Roblox, Coinbase, Palo Alto Networks, among others.
