Maintenance Manager

Overview Maintenance Manager oversees day‑to‑day functions of mechanics, bus washers, utility workers and administrative staff. The position is based in Phoenix, AZ. Compensation & Benefits Competitive compensation package of minimum $112,000 – maximum $140,000 annually. Vacation: minimum of two weeks Sick days: 5 days Holidays: 12 days; 8 standard and 4 floating 401(k) retirement plan, medical, dental and vision, life insurance, short‑term disability, voluntary long‑term disability Key Responsibilities Supervising Maintenance Staff: hire, train, evaluate technicians; ensure adherence to safety and performance standards; provide coaching; manage discipline; monitor absences/PTO/FMLA usage; authorize time sheets; conduct daily safety/shift turnover meetings; facilitate union work environment. Preventive Maintenance: develop maintenance schedule; perform inspections; ensure operational efficiency of mechanical, electrical, automated systems; make on‑the‑spot decisions; communicate with mechanics; monitor tracking sheets; oversee internal and vendor work; work with parts personnel; schedule PMIs; ensure work order closure at EOM. Budget and Resource Management: track maintenance expenses; manage spare parts inventory; forecast material needs; optimize costs; ensure work order closure at EOM per RTA guidelines. Compliance and Safety: ensure all activities comply with regulations; address environmental concerns; maintain cleanliness of yard and facilities; communicate with management. Technical Support and Troubleshooting: provide mechanical expertise; coordinate with vendors or contractors; monitor status of down/out‑of‑service equipment; provide daily report; collect oil samples; review dashboard; follow up on abnormal issues. Other duties as required. Qualifications High school diploma, GED or equivalent. Valid CDL Class B (or higher) with passenger and airbrake endorsements preferred. 7+ years experience in repair and maintenance of heavy‑duty automotive and transit equipment. 3+ years supervisory experience. Broad understanding of mechanical systems related to heavy‑duty transportation vehicles. Familiarity with laws & regulations for maintenance facilities. Proficient with Microsoft Office. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must work shifts or flexible schedules as needed. Subject to DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. Physical Requirements Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity; 100% of job performed outside; work alone and in remote locations. Sit for extended periods up to 8 hours per day; walk for long distances on uneven surfaces. Push/pull objects up to 50 lbs; lift material up to 50 lbs with or without assistance; bend, kneel, or crouch to ground level. Endure heavy traffic, dust, fumes, and noise.
