The Expanded Functions Dental Assistant plays a very important part of the connection between the patient and the Dentist. The primary purpose of this position is to serve by performing a variety of supportive technical and expanded function duties in the delivery of dental treatment. This includes assisting in general dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, and pediatric dentistry treatments to patients. A smiling face and friendly attitude are a must for this role. This job description entails the responsibilities of Expanded Functions Dental Assistant; however, this is not an all-inclusive list as the position requires flexibility and acceptance of other tasks as assigned.Job Duties:Welcomes patient with a smilePrepares the treatment roomAssists dentist during proceduresSterilization of instrumentsAssist in updating and maintaining patient clinic recordsPerform routine cleaningsAssist in the performance of more complicated surgical proceduresOffer patient advice and materials necessary to maintain good dental healthEducate patient by giving oral hygiene and postoperative instructionsPrevent the spread of infection and disease by maintaining a surgically clean work environmentPerform/obtain X-rays of patient's teethPrepare materials for crowns or dental impressionsPerform restorativePerform coronal polishing, sealant application, fluoride application, and topical anesthetic application as needed – if trainedStock treatment areas and monitor inventory to anticipate needed suppliesCompose orders and verify receipt of suppliesCall patients for aftercare to answer questions on procedures and follow-up on treatment or appointmentsConserve dental resources by eliminating wasteEnsures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements by following manufacturers instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societiesAssures highest productivity dailyParticipates in staff meetingsContributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as neededConserves resources by elimination of waste, adequate care of supplies and equipmentBenefits:No weekends!Dental and Vision InsuranceRetirement/$401KPaid Time OffMany, many more!
