Interim Controller
TwentyThree North is partnering with a PE-backed CPG company with a strong consumer brand on an accounting consulting project that includes backfilling its Controller role. We’re seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting function, oversee a team, and help strengthen and scale the finance organization to support the company’s continued growth. The role reports directly to the CFO.Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage a team of seven across the accounting organization.Own and drive the monthly close process, ensuring the books are closed accurately and on schedule.Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reporting.Partner with FP&A and senior leadership to support the monthly Board reporting package, ensuring financial results and supporting analysis are accurate, timely, and clearly presented.Establish and manage a disciplined close calendar, clearly defining responsibilities, deadlines, and deliverables across the accounting team.Expedite the monthly close process by identifying bottlenecks, improving processes, and implementing more efficient workflows.Review account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, reserves, and other close-related activities to ensure accuracy and completeness.Coordinate with FP&A to explain monthly actuals, variances, and key business drivers.Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, inventory accounting, and other core accounting functions.Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable accounting, tax, and regulatory requirements.Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third-party service providers.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.Public accounting experience preferred.8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including management experience.Strong technical accounting and financial reporting experience.Experience with inventory, COGS, and other accounting considerations relevant to a CPG or consumer products environment.Experience in a private equity-backed, high-growth, or similarly dynamic organization strongly preferred.Strong understanding of US GAAP and internal controls.Hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves approach with the ability to operate effectively in a lean organization.
