About UsWe are an in vivo genome editing company capitalizing on our proprietary technologies to create curative genetic medicines for patients. We were founded on the science of metagenomics, the study of genetic materials recovered from the natural environment, to discover and develop a suite of novel editing tools potentially capable of correcting any type of genetic mutation found anywhere in the human genome. MGX-001 is our lead, wholly-owned development program in hemophilia A, which has demonstrated a preclinical profile potentially competitive with best-in-class treatment options, including targeted genome editing and durable gene expression in a one-time treatment. We are also currently pursuing other indications leveraging the MGX-001 site-specific genome integration system and partnered assets targeting cardiometabolic diseases.About the RoleWe are seeking a seasoned SVP or VP to lead Business Development to further shape and execute our partnership and growth strategy. This is a full-time position based in Emeryville, CA, with hybrid flexibility.As a key member of the executive leadership team reporting to C-suite, you will be responsible for the identification, evaluation, and execution of strategic partnerships, licensing agreements, and M&A opportunities that will drive our pipeline toward commercial success.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive business development roadmap aligned with the company’s long-term R&D and corporate strategies and financial goals.Deal Execution: Lead the full lifecycle of business development activities, including sourcing, due diligence for partnering and in/outlicensing, valuation modeling, term sheet and definitive agreement negotiation through execution.Market Intelligence: Monitor the competitive landscape and emerging scientific trends to identify "white space" opportunities and potential threats.Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, Legal, and Finance teams to ensure technical feasibility and commercial viability of all potential transactions.External Representation: Serve as a primary ambassador for the company at major industry conferences (JP Morgan, BIO, ASH, etc.).Required QualificationsExperience: A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in business development, corporate development within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical sectors, preferably with significant tenure as the head of business development at the SVP or VP level. Experience on both “buy-side” and “sell-side” transactions would be ideal.Education: Bachelor’s in a life sciences field (Biology, Chemistry, etc.) and an advanced degree (PhD, MD, or MBA) are highly preferred.Proven Track Record: Demonstrated success in closing high-value transactions, including out-licensing, in-licensing, and strategic collaborations. Experience with preclinical/early-stage clinical preferred.Network: Deep existing relationships within the global biopharma ecosystem.Transactional and Financial Acumen: Advanced proficiency in complex financial modeling, asset valuation, and deal structuring. Presentation acumen to be an external spokesperson for the company.Communication: Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to articulate complex scientific concepts to non-technical stakeholders.Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead teams of diverse skills and engage with potential partners in an open and collaborative style.California Pay Transparency DisclosureUnder the Federal Labor Standards Act, this position is classified as exempt. Its anticipated base salary range will be $285,000 to $400,000. You will also be eligible to receive an annual bonus, company equity and a full range of benefits. Please note that individual total compensation for this position will be determined at the Company’s sole discretion and may vary based on location, skill level, years and depth of relevant experience, and education.
