Objective: To develop and lead the ministry to families and Student Ministries of Grace (SMoG), emphasizing discipleship, shepherding families and their students, and recruiting, training, and supporting adults to assist in the ministry. A. ShepherdingThe heart (and burden) of every staff person’s call is to be a shepherd to the people God has called them to serve. The staff person or Assistant Pastor of Youth and Families will be a shepherd, whose focus will be on three groups:1. YouthThe staff person or Assistant Pastor of Youth and Families will provide robust shepherding to the middle school/high school students primarily through various discipleship opportunities. 2. FamiliesThis person will train, develop, and encourage the parents of SMoG students in what it means to shepherd their children; assist and counsel them in areas of family worship, discipline, and addressing the heart in struggle and conflict (including counseling where appropriate).3. Leadership GroupThis person will identify, recruit, train, encourage, and equip gifted adults (including but not limited to parents of our students) to assist him in all aspects of the ministry.4. Discipleship He would determine and provide regular, careful, and doctrinally sound instruction in the Scriptures for students and their parents. This person would teach both the Middle School and High School students in some capacity throughout the year, and would be required to engage other adult leaders to teach as needed.C. Developing and Nurturing Inter-Generational Connectedness Intentional Involvement — Although we recognize that students have unique ministry and social needs, we want to be careful that we not create a “youth ghetto” which separates our young people from the church at large. This person will seek to involve SMoG students in every aspect of church life and service, and to involve GCPC members in the SMoG ministry.Expectations: This ministry will be a hands-on, deeply relational, and practical ministry.
