Job Overview:
Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center. We have an opportunity for an O&P Technician I at our CFab West facility in Portland, Oregon, reporting into our Headquarters location.
The O&P Technician I duties include but are not limited to perform orthotic and / or prosthetic technical duties under the supervision of the Lab Supervisors as detailed in the performance standards. The Technician will demonstrate competence in the fabrication, adjustment and repairing of all orthotic and/or prosthetic appliances.
Responsibilities:
Adjusts schedule with assistance from supervisor to expedite emergency fabrication or repairs as needed
Completes department-specific and hospital-wide safety requirements.
Complies with safety programs.
Demonstrates attention to quality by producing clean project with even contours, smooth edges and secure parts.
Identifies deficiencies and seeks input concerning re-fabrication if necessary. Makes sure all screws are lock-tight, and the Orthosis or Prosthesis is structurally safe and in good working order
Demonstrates the ability to work with CAD/CAM and foam models
Demonstrates plaster-working abilities through: cast sealing and preparation, plaster mixing and pouring to produce a solid model with minimal aeration or imperfections.
Fabricates and repairs complex devices – seeking input from supervisor and others as needed. (KAFO, A/K, partial foot, HKAFO’s W/D, A/E)
Fulfill other duties as assigned, to help keep a smoother operation of the department
Independently fabricates and repairs standard orthotic or prosthetic appliances, examines structural integrity and cosmesis according to standards. (inserts, shoe lifts MAFO, Boston, B/K or B/E)
Maintains clean, safe, clutter-free and orderly environment.
Maintains and cleans equipment in the O&P laboratory.
Makes accurate decisions concerning material selection for each project, using input from practitioners concerning patient’s size, diagnosis and activity level
Plans and prioritizes the work week to accomplish routine responsibilities within the prescribed timelines
Supports research in any needed Orthotic/Prosthetic technician capacity
Takes leadership role in maintenance and repair of all laboratory equipment.
To maintain and supply inventory of both fabricated parts, and on stock Orthotic/Prosthetic devices and supplies
Utilizes proper equipment and departmental safety precautions and equipment to reduce fumes and dust whenever possible.
Wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working in all phases of fabrication and repair of O&P devices.

Experience:
1 year of orthotic and/or prosthetic fabrication experience in a laboratory or private firm preferred
High School Diploma or GED required
