This, along with our remarkable culture of belonging, weekly devotionals, and endless opportunities for learning and growth-all situated within a beautiful and historic campus-make it hard to imagine a more inspiring place to work.Brigham Young University strongly prefers to hire faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.Computing Specialist (part-time 17.5 hours/week)Join the Department of Physics and Astronomy in providing computer support to the Department of Physics and Astronomy on Windows, Linux, and Mac systems as we engage in world-class research**Position will remain open until filled**What you'll do in this position:End-User Support & TroubleshootingDiagnose and resolve a wide range of end-user hardware, software, and connectivity issues using systematic troubleshooting techniques.Identify root causes, test potential solutions, document findings, and escalate complex problems when appropriate to ensure timely resolution and minimal disruption.Systems, Server, Storage & Network SupportPerform routine hardware and software maintenance to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security.Configure, deploy, and maintain Windows, macOS, and Linux desktop and server systems, including account setup, system imaging, security configuration, and approved software installation.Support the setup, monitoring, and basic administration of storage technologies, servers, and network infrastructure, including backups, user access management, system upgrades, and performance monitoring.Equipment Installation & Physical SupportAssist with the physical setup, relocation, installation, and occasional lifting of computer equipment such as desktops, laptops, monitors, printers, and networking devices while following established safety guidelines.What qualifies you for this role:Required:A firm commitment to the mission of BYU1 year in tech service desk or IT troubleshootingExcellent technical skillsDemonstrated competence in troubleshooting issues as they arise in a timely mannerAbility to work well with others and contribute to the teamProfessionalism and courtesy in dealing with faculty, staff, and studentsPreferred:2+ years in tech service desk or IT troubleshootingExisting Windows management experience Linux or Mac system knowledge Storage technology backgroundWhat we offer in return:This position comes with fantastic benefits, including:Employee assistance program, available to the employee and all members of their householdAccess to the libraryFree on-campus parkingFree UTA passDiscounts at the BYU Store and for many events at BYUPay Grade: 52Typical Starting Pay: $31.25 to $40.50 an hourRequired Documents:All Staff positions require a resume.Refer to the Job Posting for any additional required documents.Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints must hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.Brigham Young University is an equal opportunity employer, including disability and protected veteran status.
