LocationOur campus is located at 1601 Maple Street, Carrollton, GA 30118. Faculty and staff members are expected to be physically present on campus as needed to support the in-person educational experience and on-campus vitality at the University of West Georgia. Depending upon teaching assignments and student demand, this could include the Carrollton or Newnan campuses. Job SummaryThe primary focus of this position is to conduct continuous campus patrols, respond to crime reports and calls for service, and ensure facility security. This position is for an experienced patrol officer who can work independently to solve problems, with or without supervision, train less experienced peace officers, and serve as the shift supervisor in the absence of the Shift Sergeant, as ordered by the division commander. Additional essential duties include collecting, recording, and securing evidence from crime scenes; interviewing those involved; writing reports; and making arrests for violations of state law and local ordinances. Other duties include assisting motorists, responding to medical emergencies, testifying in court, serving as a backup dispatcher, assisting the Criminal Investigations Division and local law enforcement agencies as needed, serving criminal warrants, and other duties as assigned. The location will be the UWG Carrollton Campus, with occasional coverage of the UWG Newnan Campus on a rotating schedule. Required Qualifications Educational Requirements High school diploma or GED. Required Experience United States citizens at least twenty-one (21) years of age at the time of appointment. Applicants must have no felony or misdemeanor convictions that would disqualify them from law enforcement employment, except for nonserious motor vehicle offenses, as determined by applicable law and agency standards. Applicants must have at least two (2) years of experience as a certified law enforcement officer, and must hold current Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council certification in good standing as a condition of employment OR possess qualifying, verifiable military experience deemed equivalent by the Department. Applicants must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license in good standing throughout employment. Reliable transportation and access to a working telephone are required. Applicants must possess basic computer skills or the ability to acquire and maintain proficiency in Department-approved computer systems. Be found, after examination by a licensed physician or surgeon, to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental conditions which might adversely affect his/her exercising the powers or duties of a peace officer. The applicant must be able to achieve a qualifying score with department weapons under standards outlined by the Ga POST Council and the department. Preferred Qualifications Preferred Educational Qualifications Bachelor's Degree Preferred Experience Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree in criminology, criminal justice, business administration, counseling, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, as determined by the Department, may be considered. Applicants should have at least four (4) years of experience as a certified peace officer and demonstrate progress toward or completion of the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Supervisory Certificate and the Georgia POST Intermediate Certificate. Prior experience as a law enforcement officer in a higher education environment is preferred. Experience applying Title IX procedures, including investigative or compliance-related responsibilities, is also preferred. Proposed Salary$21.66 to $25.08 hourly. Paid on a bi-weekly basis. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities ABILITIES Ability to use common sense to follow instructions given in written, spoken, or diagram form. Ability to handle problems with multiple concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to read and understand simple instructions, and to write brief correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Physical Requirements Atmospheric Conditions - Conditions that affect the respiratory system, such as gas, fumes, odors, dust, mites, gases, or poor ventilation. Hazards - Include a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current or exposure to chemicals. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced knowledge of law enforcement database software, Internet software, and Office Suite processing software.
