High School English Teacher

SUMMARY OF POSITION:Provides an educational program for secondary students in an environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishes effective rapport with students to promote positive attitudes of self-worth; motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further participation in secondary education, college or career, in accordance with each student's ability. Establishes good relationships with students, parents and other staff members.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Credential - Any valid credential issued by the State of Indiana to perform the services of an English teacher in a classroom.Education - Bachelor's degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.HLC Certified willingness to pursue HLC Certification preferred.Advanced placement, PLTW, or International Baccalaureate experience or interest preferred.Preferred - Will take on an extra curricular activity. (ECA positions come with a stipend and will be in addition to the base salary)PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESFollow the criteria established in the Duneland School Corporation Teacher Evaluation PlanProvide learning experiences in language arts, utilizing the course of study mandated by the Duneland School CorporationInstruct students in citizenship, basic communication skills and other general elements of the course of study specified in state law, administrative regulations, or set by the Duneland School CorporationPlan, organize, and implement differentiated lessons to meet the diverse needs of studentsEstablish and implement clear objectives for each lessonEngage students in meaningful activities to assure student mastery of contentApply Depth of Knowledge strands in instructional strategiesMaintain accurate and complete records of student performanceEnter student grades in student information system weeklyEngage and confer with parents and colleagues creating healthy relationships with students and faculty to address student academic and behavioral needs and create a quality learning environmentEstablish and implement classroom rules and procedures to provide an environment conducive to learningAdminister assessments as required by the State of Indiana and the corporationInteract with colleagues, parents, and students in a manner that is professional and reflect the expectations of leadership within the school and corporationFollow all expectations described in the Duneland School Corporation's Teacher Agreement and employee handbookFollow all procedures and expectations established by the building principal(s) and /or corporation leadershipMonitor and supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working dayParticipate in sponsorship of department, school, faculty and district activities and committeesKeep abreast of developments in your field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional developmentEstablish a continuity of instruction to insure you meet our primary obligation of providing a rich and engaging education for your students.
