About the RoleThe ICT Business Service division at Zurich Flughafen AG is responsible for engineering, developing, operating, and maintaining applications and platforms supporting Flughafen Zürich. Its technology services enable critical processes across aircraft handling, airside operations, passenger handling, baggage sorting, data integration, and data management.As a Senior Database Engineer, with a primary focus on MS SQL Server, you will support comprehensive data management activities ranging from requirements engineering and technical consulting to database optimization, operational reliability, and continuous development. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to application integration initiatives.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, engineer, operate, and monitor central data platforms including MS SQL Server, MariaDB, and Oracle.Define system architectures, software solutions, and the technical resources required for implementation.Lead projects, technical developments, and lifecycle initiatives while ensuring delivery according to quality, schedule, and budget requirements.Advise and support internal stakeholders on architecture, security, performance, and operational matters.Provide technical expertise and consulting related to database and platform services.Contribute to team development through an open, honest, and empathetic working approach.Participate in on-call services for critical platforms.Work with external operations partners to maintain the quality, security, and availability of database platforms.Support application integration topics, including streaming and enterprise service bus technologies.Required QualificationsHigher education qualification in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or an equivalent advanced qualification.Strong expertise in building, operating, and continuously developing highly available MS SQL Server configurations, particularly Always On environments.Practical experience with performance tuning, database security, upgrades, and disaster recovery.Scripting experience with T-SQL and PowerShell.Practical experience with Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instances.Very good German language skills and good English proficiency.Willingness to support application integration and related technical topics.Preferred Technical SkillsExperience with MySQL, MariaDB, and Oracle.Familiarity with Kafka streaming.Experience with IBM webMethods ESB.Experience managing database platforms within complex enterprise environments.Knowledge of database architecture, monitoring, security, and lifecycle management.Ideal Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate is an experienced database engineer who combines deep MS SQL Server expertise with strong operational and architectural capabilities.
