Procurement Category Manager (San Jose)
Category Leader, PrincipalLocation: Oakland or San Ramon, CA (Hybrid)Salary: $150,000 – $170,000About the RoleThis is a senior procurement role responsible for managing how the company buys goods and services. You will lead sourcing strategies, work with suppliers, and ensure the company gets the best value while managing risk and maintaining strong supplier relationships.You will collaborate with internal teams, analyze market trends, and negotiate contracts to support business goals and ensure smooth supply chain operations.What You'll DoAct as the main expert for specific procurement categories (such as IT, construction, or professional services)Develop and execute sourcing and category strategies to reduce cost and manage riskLead supplier selection processes (RFPs, RFIs) and negotiate contractsReview, draft, and manage contracts to ensure compliance and accuracyBuild and manage strong relationships with suppliers, including performance trackingWork closely with internal teams (finance, legal, operations) to align procurement strategiesMonitor market trends and supplier performance to make informed decisionsConduct supplier risk assessments and ensure business continuitySupport leadership with data and insights for strategic decision-makingWhat We're Looking ForMinimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience)8+ years of experience in procurement or sourcingPreferred Experience:10+ years in procurement, sourcing, or supply chainExperience in areas like IT, professional services, construction, or materialsStrong contract negotiation and supplier management experienceExperience using tools like SAP, Ariba, or similar systemsStrong analytical skills (spend analysis, cost modeling, etc.)Ability to work with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teamsGood communication and presentation skillsAdvanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)MBA or advanced degree (preferred but not required)Key Skills for SuccessStrategic thinking and problem-solvingStrong negotiation and contract management skillsData-driven decision-makingStakeholder management and collaborationAttention to detail and risk awareness
