Coordinator, School Nursing
Coordinator, School NursingCoordinates nursing services in a region or in the office of District Nursing Services. Supervises the activities of nursing services personnel in schools and in a region or supervises the work of school nurses who provide District-wide nursing services for specially-funded programs or special nursing services. Serves as a resource person to schools regarding matters of health or District Nursing Services. Primary duties involve coordinating, executing, and overseeing nursing services personnel, programs, initiatives, and providing operational.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:Coordinates the operations of nursing services in a region, in Special Education, or in Special Programs
Interprets the role and function of school nurses, licensed vocational nurses (LVNs), and health care assistants (HCAs) to District personnel, school communities, and community partners/agencies
Reviews nursing services assignments based on funding allocations and student health needs
Provides region- or program-wide services to ensure access, equity, and continuity of nursing services and student wellness
Counsels and informs central office, region, and school personnel regarding school nursing services strategies, policies, and laws to promote student health and well-being and remove barriers to learning
Plans with multi-disciplinary staff from other divisions, regions, and school staff regarding school nursing services, evidence-based practices, specialized physical health care services (SPHCS), and other school and student health care needs
Provides direct support to District and region operations staff related to school nursing, student health needs, emergencies, SPHCS, and District, federal, and state policies and mandates
Collaborates with District Nursing and public health officials to implement communicable disease prevention related to the COVID-19 pandemic
Develops and reviews professional development, in-service activities, and other opportunities for professional growth for nursing personnel
Continued - Primary Duties/Responsibilities:Reviews and analyzes nursing budget, including all funding sources, to implement nursing services at schools or in special programs
Reviews, interprets, and prepares reports on District policies and procedures associated with state mandates and laws, and coordinates implementation of policies and procedures
Supervises and evaluates job performance of assigned staff; communicates expectations for each role; visits and observes nurses to monitor performance; completes required performance evaluations; and provides assistance and guidance as needed to subordinate personnel
Monitors school nurse and LVN documentation in a variety of platforms for completion, accuracy, and quality assurance
Assists with planning, organizing, and implementing special projects, initiatives, and activities for the continual improvement of school nursing practices and in alignment with division and District goals and objectives
Assists with the development or revision of District policy bulletins, memoranda, reference guides, and inter-office communications
Assists with the recruitment, hiring, and training of both classified and certificated staff
Assists the director and administrative coordinator of Nursing Services with program development and evaluation and with the development of internal and external communications regarding programs and services
Performs other duties as assigned
Salary:Salary: 62G, (School Support Administrator, Nurse Administrator, 0516) A Basis ($158,612 $191,703) 261 paid days
In the case of an annualized employee who is changing basis during the year, this change may result in an annualized "settlement" (i.e., the process by which the District resolves an under or overpayment).
For employees who change basis during the school year, this basis change may prevent them from earning a full year of service credit.
Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to norm allocation and seniority-based RIF provisions or due budget limitations.
Minimum Requirements:At least five (5) years of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s)
A valid active California Registered Nurse License
A valid California Administrative Services Credential
A valid California School Nurse Services Credential, a valid California Health and Development Credential authorizing service as a school nurse, OR a valid California Service Credential with a specialization in health authorizing service as a school nurse
An earned master's degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally-accredited college or university
Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework*
Special Requirement:A valid California driver license and the use of a privately owned insured automobile

Desirable Experience/Qualifications:At least one year of successful, full-time public school service in a certificated position(s) requiring the Administrative Services Credential
Knowledge of public and private resources and public health institutions working in coordination with the educational system
Maintain current knowledge of and ability to interpret applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, state and federal laws, codes and regulation regarding student health and scope of nursing practice
Demonstrated experience in improving service delivery in nursing
Demonstrated experience partnering with, and on behalf of students
Demonstrated experience in effective communication with students, parents, other District personnel, and community representatives, both individually and as a group
Demonstrated experience composing District policy guides, reference guides, or memorandums
Experience advocating for the health and wellness of high-risk student populations, such as medically vulnerable students, students experiencing homelessness, or students involved in the child welfare system

Capacity to work independently while providing detailed updates on progress
Strong project management skills, particularly when managing multiple responsibilities
