Head Start Bus Drivers

SummaryThe Bus Driver will safely transport Head Start children and/or other authorized persons to designated locations.DutiesUnderstands the Head Start Program transportation regulations, objectives, concepts, purpose and implementation.Becomes familiar with the bus route prior to the beginning of school year.Establishes a daily route to transport children to and from school and/or cafeteria.Conducts a daily inspection of vehicle prior to departure and document such.Transports children and their parents on field trips and parent activities.Responsible for normal operation of the vehicle and maintenance of various documentation such as bus logs, accident records, maintenance logs, and bus routes.Works in the center under the direction of the teacher on developmentally appropriate activities for 3- and 4-year-olds as required.Participates in staff and parent workshops.Maintains proper care of classroom equipment facilities.Attends parent meetings as required.Ensures that each child is accounted for by reconciling and maintaining a “passenger on/off checklist”.Assists children in getting on and off the bus safely.Cleans Head Start bus daily.Releases children only to DESIGNATED person(s).Assists staff in receiving children during bus arrival and assist staff with assuring children’s departure on correct bus.Assists the staff in serving snacks and/or transporting lunch.Perform custodial services as required.Other duties may be assigned by administrators of Improvement Association.RequirementsMust have current driver’s/commercial license to drive a school bus.Must communicate well with parents, Head Start staff, and children.Must maintain a good driving record.Must pass criminal background checkMaintain current First Aid and CPR certification.
