Steel MIG Welder *Job Title:* Steel MIG Welder *Department:* Production / Fabrication *Reports To:* Welding Supervisor / Production Manager Position Summary We are seeking a skilled and dependable *Steel MIG Welder* to join our fabrication team. In this role, you will weld carbon steel components used in the manufacturing of structural steel products, equipment, frames, and custom fabrications. The ideal candidate has experience reading blueprints, interpreting weld symbols, and producing high-quality welds that meet company and customer specifications. This position requires attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities * Perform MIG (GMAW) welding on carbon steel components according to engineering drawings and welding procedures. * Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and work orders. * Fit, align, tack, and weld steel parts to precise specifications. * Operate welding equipment, grinders, saws, and other fabrication tools safely and efficiently. * Inspect welds for quality, strength, and appearance, making repairs as needed. * Measure completed assemblies using tape measures, squares, levels, and precision measuring tools. * Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning, grinding, or removing imperfections before welding. * Assist with layout, fabrication, and assembly of welded components. * Perform routine maintenance on welding equipment and report equipment issues. * Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. * Meet daily production goals while maintaining quality and safety standards. * Follow all OSHA and company safety policies, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Qualifications * High school diploma or GED preferred. * Previous MIG welding experience required. * Experience welding carbon steel in a manufacturing or fabrication environment preferred. * Ability to read blueprints, fabrication drawings, and welding symbols. * Knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and fabrication processes. * Ability to use measuring tools accurately. * Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. * Ability to work independently and as part of a team. * Welding certification (AWS or equivalent) is a plus but not required. Physical Requirements * Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods. * Frequently lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds. * Ability to work in hot, noisy, and physically demanding manufacturing environments. * Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. * Ability to wear required PPE, including welding helmet, gloves, respirator (when required), and steel-toe boots. Preferred Skills * Experience welding structural steel, heavy equipment, trailers, or custom metal fabrications. * Ability to perform basic fabrication, fitting, and layout work. * Experience operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment. * Knowledge of welding inspections and quality control procedures. * Familiarity with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
