Grounds Crew Leader

Summary:This is a skilled, working, and supervisory grounds maintenance position to perform grounds and building maintenance at all City-owned facilities. Also, it may be required to construct new landscaping, fences, or sports fields and facilities. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Leisure Services Foreman.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.• Oversees/supervises Community Service Workers and Groundskeepers in custodial or grounds maintenance activities for City of Callaway parks, cemetery, Tyndall Parkway medians, and other City-owned facilities.• Maintains all City parks and grounds by mowing and trimming of grass and weeds, picking up litter and other objects.• Maintains other City facilities by painting and other minor building repairs.• Prepares City athletic fields for competitive play by dragging and lining of fields.• Assists in the installation and repairs irrigation systems.• Assists with the landscaping of parks and athletic fields.• Assists other divisions in performing duties as directed.• Constructs, maintains and repairs fences.• Oversees and performs custodial duties such as sweeping, vacuuming, and cleaning of all community facilities• Assists with the installation and storage of holiday banners and decorations.• Assists where needed with any City of Callaway events.• Performs related duties as required.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:• Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in labor work.• Ability to perform and delegate assigned tasks under only general supervision.• Sufficient physical strength to perform heavy labor work.• Ability to work under adverse weather conditions.• Ability to read and comprehend simple instruction.• Ability to write simple correspondence.• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.Minimum Qualifications:• High school diploma or GED.• Three (3) years of experience in grounds and facilities maintenance.• Must have at least one (1) year experience in sports field preparation maintenance.• Valid State of Florida Class E driver's license, CDL preferred.• Must obtain FDOT M.O.T. Certification within one year of employment.• Must obtain FDACS Green Industries Best Management Practices Certification within one year of employment.A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for certain minimum qualification requirements.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
