Job Description
Position Summary:The Diesel Technician III is a senior-level technician responsible for advanced diagnostics, major component repair, and field service support. This role serves as a technical leader within the shop, contributing to operational oversight, quality control, and the training and development of junior technicians.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Perform complex repairs and replacements of engines, transmissions, and differentials.Lead advanced diagnostic efforts utilizing OEM software (e.g., Cummins, Volvo, CAT).Troubleshoot and repair after-treatment systems and electrical control components.Conduct and oversee DOT compliance inspections and certify completed repairs.Perform major repairs on air systems, hydraulic systems, and electronic brake systems.Conduct road tests, system calibrations, and post-repair performance verifications.Maintain organization of tools, parts inventory, and overall shop cleanliness.Train, mentor, and support the development of Technician I and II team members.Provide input on maintenance scheduling, equipment reliability, and cost trends.Support field service operations, including emergency roadside repairs as needed.Ensure accurate and thorough documentation of work performed in MC/E360 systems.Collaborate with the Equipment Services & Fabrication Manager to control repair costs and minimize equipment downtime.Partner cross-functionally with business units across Carver companies to support operational needs.Perform other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.5–8 years of experience in heavy-duty truck diagnostics and repair.Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; ability to obtain or maintain a CDL-A.Advanced knowledge of diesel engines, after-treatment systems, and diagnostic processes.Inspector's License (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe).Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to safely lift up to 75 pounds and work in active shop and job site environments.Preferred Experience:Valid Class A CDL license or ability to obtain.OEM diagnostic certifications (e.g., Cummins, Volvo, CAT).Experience using maintenance and documentation systems such as MC/E360.Prior experience mentoring or training junior technicians.Physical Requirements:Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds for extended periods.Frequent use of hands, tools, and equipment requiring fine motor skills and attention to detail.Ability to safely operate in a shop environment and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed footwear.Work Environment:Primarily based in a repair shop environment with exposure to noise, heavy machinery, and moving equipment.May be exposed to varying temperatures, dust, and odors depending on season and work conditions.Adherence to all company safety policies and procedures is required to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.What We Offer:Highly competitive payHolidays and paid time offComprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance with additional coverage options available through AFLAC401(k) retirement plan with up to 8% company matchShort-Term and Long-Term DisabilityGroup Life InsuranceEmployee Assistance FundEmergency Service Worker bonusEmployee Referral Bonus15% Carhartt discount for all NY employeesEmployee-owned company investment opportunitiesCarver Companies is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other protected status under federal, state, or local laws.
