Job SummaryThe Staff Product Manager is a senior contributor who operates with a high degree of autonomy and strategic influence on the [insert] product lines. This role goes beyond managing a single feature area — the Staff PM is expected to lead complex, cross-cutting product initiatives, shape product strategy, and serve as an internal authority on government {insert product area} workflows. The Staff PM partners closely with engineering, UX, and go-to-market teams to deliver outcomes that drive measurable client and business value. This role does have a product owner as a direct report.Duties And ResponsibilitiesOwn end-to-end product strategy and roadmap for a significant area of the DMV product portfolioDrive discovery and problem framing for complex, ambiguous product challenges; synthesize input from clients, data, and market research into clear strategic directionDefine and maintain a prioritized, outcomes-oriented backlog; author high-quality epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria that reflect deep domain understandingServe as a subject matter resource for government DMV— educating internal teams and informing product decisionsLead cross-functional collaboration across engineering, UX, sales, implementation, and customer success to ensure aligned, high-quality product deliveryProactively identify interdependencies and risks across product lines; work across teams to resolve ambiguity and drive decisionsDefine product success metrics; monitor performance, analyze usage data, and iterate based on evidenceMentor and provide guidance to Product Managers and Product Owners on craft, domain knowledge, and stakeholder managementMonitor regulatory and legislative changes affecting {insert product area}; translate implications into product requirementsLeverage AI-assisted tools (e.g., Claude, ChatPRD) to accelerate discovery, documentation, and backlog managementPerform other duties as assignedEducation And Experience6+ years of product management experience, with demonstrated progression in scope and responsibilityDeep experience in government technology DMV software strongly preferredTrack record of independently leading significant product initiatives from discovery through launch and adoptionProficiency with Agile methodologies and SDLC; experience with tools such as JIRA, Azure DevOps, ProductBoard, and FigmaBachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Public Administration, or equivalent experience. Familiarity with technical concepts including APIs, middleware, data integrations, and SQLKnowledge, Skills And AbilitiesExperience with state government product, software or hardware is vital for this role's success, DMV-specific knowledge highly desired. Strong strategic and analytical thinking; able to frame complex problems, evaluate trade-offs, and make well-reasoned recommendations with limited guidanceDeep understanding of state and local government and regulatory compliance environmentsExcellent written and verbal communication skills; effective at influencing peers, engineers, and senior stakeholders without direct authorityAbility to operate independently in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and drive clarity for teamsStrong data fluency; skilled at defining metrics, interpreting product analytics, and communicating insightsProficiency with AI productivity tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot) to accelerate story creation, research, and roadmap documentationAbility to juggle multiple competing priorities across a complex product domainWork EnvironmentThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as the employee works remotely or in an office setting, at an individual workstation, using telephone and computer.Physical DemandsMust be able to remain in a stationary position for most of the dayConstantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a printer/copy machineThis position needs to occasionally move about inside the officeThe person in this position frequently communicates via telephone and video conferencingWork Environment:Office setting with a moderate noise level.
