This role assists with the installation, configuration, testing, and documentation of network equipment including switches, routers, and wireless access points. The position supports project-based work that contributes to the reliability, security, and performance of the university’s network environment.Duties And ResponsibilitiesNetwork Infrastructure Implementation SupportAssist with installation and setup of network hardware including switches, routers, and wireless access points.Support network infrastructure upgrades and project implementations across campus environments.Assist with connecting devices, configuring ports, and supporting basic network configuration tasks as directed by network administrators or engineers.Support hardware deployment activities including equipment staging and installation.Troubleshooting & Operational SupportAssist in diagnosing and resolving basic network connectivity issues.Support monitoring of network systems and escalate issues to senior staff when necessary.Respond to service requests related to network connectivity and infrastructure support.Assist with testing and validation of network functionality following system changes or upgrades.Documentation & Project CoordinationDocument network equipment, configurations, and installation activities.Assist with maintaining network diagrams and technical documentation.Track assigned tasks related to network implementation projects.Collaboration & LearningWork alongside network administrators, engineers, and infrastructure staff to support network initiatives.Follow established IT standards, operational procedures, and security practices.Participate in knowledge sharing and documentation of operational processes.Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.Minimum QualificationsFormal EducationBachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Networking, or a related field or an equivalent combination of relevant education, certifications, and experience.Work ExperienceExperience supporting networking or technology environments through coursework, certifications, internships, labs, or early professional experience.Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills)Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Ability to follow technical procedures and implementation instructions.Ability to document technical work clearly and maintain accurate records.Ability to work collaboratively with technical teams and follow guidance from senior staff.Strong attention to detail and ability to complete assigned tasks within project timelines.Ability to learn and apply AI and emerging technologies in a responsible and ethical manner, using them to support work, improve processes, and enhance decision making.Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)Foundational understanding of networking concepts such as TCP /IP, DNS , DHCP , routing, switching, and basic network security principles.Familiarity with enterprise networking equipment and wireless infrastructure is helpful.Equipment KnowledgeBasic familiarity with networking equipment such as switches, routers, and wireless access points.Preferred QualificationsFormal EducationRelevant certifications such as Network+, CCNA (or progress toward certification).Work ExperienceTwo years of hands‑on experience supporting network infrastructure or IT projectsWorking in Higher EducationSpecific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)Exposure to VLANs or wireless network deploymentsFamiliarity with basic network monitoring or diagnostic toolsGeneral awareness of enterprise or campus IT
