Job TitleResponsible for Heavy and Light Equipment Operation, Maintenance of Equipment, and Job Safety, and Assisting in the Maintenance and Construction of the City of Denton Roadway System.Essential Functions and Other Important DutiesEssential Functions:Operates heavy complex motorized equipment such as paving/milling machine, track loader, scraper, compaction equipment, backhoe, front-end loader, skid steer loader, asphalt roller, and motor grader, etc. in a proficient manner for the purpose of construction, maintenance, or repair of the City of Dentons roadwaysPerforms skilled tasks associated with equipment operation and operates smaller equipment as needed when working on or around utilities.Inspects and checks equipment before and after use, performs minor maintenance activities and reports exceptional problems to supervisorFrequently assumes crew chief responsibilities in coordinating the activities of maintenance persons, helpers, and/or other equipment operationsWill be required to work on call shifts and overtime as required.Occasionally confers with customers regarding service problems and reports information obtained to supervisorReads and understands reference books and complicated procedures such as street/utility plans and equipment operation manualsMaintains regular and punctual on-site attendanceAdditional Duties:Performs other duties as assignedCompletes daily work order ticketsPerforms Flagging duties as neededPerforms On-Call duties as assignedJob RequirementsMinimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:High school diploma or GED equivalentThree years experience in operation of light to heavy equipment.ORAny combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the jobCore Competencies:Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writingAbility to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customersSkilled in the operation of backhoe, skid steer loader and dump truckAbility to load truck with track hoe or track loaderBasic working knowledge of excavation equipment and proceduresAbility to read construction plans and grade stakesAbility to rake and roll asphaltPreferences:Bilingual in Spanish and EnglishPrior Four years experience in construction equipment (motor grader, backhoe, dump truck, bobcat, etc.)Experience with track mounted equipmentExperience or willingness to learn to operate haul truck/end dumpClass A CDL with tanker endorsementConditions of Employment:Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Tank Vehicle endorsement and a good driving record OR must possess a valid Class C driver license with a good driving record and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with Tank Vehicle endorsement within six (6) months of employment.Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification checkMust pass a physical examinationMust be able to perform duties in confined spacesMust be able to work 8-24hr shifts for snow/ice sandingMust be able to work overtime when requestedEnvironmental Factors and Conditions/Physical RequirementsPhysical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.Sedentary - lifting no more than 10 poundsLight - lifting no more than 20 pounds; carry up to 10 poundsMedium - lifting no more than 50 pounds, carry up to 25 pounds Heavy - lifting no more than 100 pounds, carry up to 50 poundsVery Heavy - lifting more than 100 pounds, carry more than 50 poundsPhysical Demand Codes: The following describes if the incumbent is expected to exert the following physical demands during a typical workday and the overall frequency.
