Wastewater/Utilities Assistant Manager

Founded in 1972, the Company grew organically from a one-man wine importing business to a producer and distributor of fine wine, premium spirits, and ready-to-drink beverages, including White Claw Hard Seltzer.Role PurposeThe Wastewater/Utility(W/U) Assistant Manager manages wastewater/utilities supervisors and ensures the safety of the technical teams who are performing planned, unplanned maintenance and project work in the Utilities and Wastewater Departments at the Glendale, AZ brewery.Assistant Manager manages the operations of a wastewater treatment plant to ensure compliance with regulatory procedures. Establishes sampling and testing systems, and ensures proper testing of functionality of pumps, blowers, and other equipment. Monitors the processes to meet federal, state, and local regulations and environmental guidelines and creates and updates wastewater treatment procedures to adhere to those regulations. Requires a technical degree and/or certifications. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. This position participates in capital improvement projects and budgeting. Role will perform other related work as assigned.Accountabilities & ImpactEnsure that treated effluent and bio solids meet required State and ADEQ regulations.Mentors, guides, teaches, and develops staff and direct reports regarding wastewater/utilities treatment methods, regulations, requirements, and operating knowledge.Instructs direct reports regarding leadership, budget adherence, KPI performance management, and personnel management.Provides instruction and develops the next generation of wastewater operators.Manages the budget for the department. Prepares budget estimates based on anticipated needs of department.Evaluates new developments in materials, tools, technology, and equipment.Visually inspects operations, and reviews periodic reports from contractors to determine progress of construction and maintenance projects, and status of phases of operation.Directs activities of supervisors who oversee operations, maintenance, and repair of plant facilities.Facilitate in-house training opportunities for all employees on a regular basis.Provides project management when necessary.Share operational expertise with peers, outside contractors and consultants.Respond to all requests from management concerning wastewater and utilities operations and related areas.Develop preliminary capital planning needs for the department.Ensure that all areas in the department are safe work environments.Oversees the laboratory and special samples and analysis as needed.Performs and/or oversees the quarterly/annual review process of all employees in the department.Monitors Department budget expenditure reports and strives to operate within budget.Develop plans to create equipment SME’s to educate and diversify the department.Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Skill & Experiences NeededTypically requires 5 years validated experience in a supervisory role as it relates to plant utilities.3 years supervisory experience requiredAssociates degree or higher in utilities related field (combination experience/education); wastewater certifications, boiler certification, or refrigeration certification are a plus.Experience using a CMMS system for scheduling and planning maintenance activities.Experience using MS Office products such as Excel, Word, and Outlook, or similar software.The Wastewater/Utilities Assistant Manager position is well-suited for you if you have/are:Ability to manage well under pressure while staying true to the company values.Strong work ethic and willingness to take on any task.Reliable and punctual - must adhere to attendance and absenteeism policy.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize work while multitasking.Excellent communication skills both orally and written.Ability to demonstrate and maintain a “can-do” and positive attitude.Ability to provide and receive open and regular feedback and adjust accordingly.Works collaboratively within various teams.Ability to adjust communication/leadership style as needed and when appropriate.Fully accountable owner of self and team behaviors and results.Working ConditionsThis position is exposed to occupational hazards, including but not limited to, high noise levels, physical obstacles, exposure to chemicals, etc.Ability to work outdoors occasionally, exposed to the outside conditions, for short periods of time.Subject to extreme heat/cold temperaturesMust have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods of time.Fast-paced and constantly changing work environment.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.Ability to stand/move 8-12 hours per day.Ability to ascend/descend stairs/ladders throughout shift.Fine motor skills and dexterity for manipulationMust wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including (but not limited to) bump cap, safety steel toe shoes, safety glasses, dust masks or PAPRs.Must adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).This position has been identified as a safety sensitive position within the state of Arizona.What We Value Here At Mark AnthonySense of UrgencyWe value sense of urgency because we are a fast-paced company in a fast-paced industryYou act as if there is no tomorrow and get it done todayAuthenticityWe value authenticity because we need to stay realYou are authentic, diplomatic, respectful, thoughtful and you always have the best intentionsSimplicityWe value simplicity; why use 50 words when you can use 5?You thrive in ambiguity, are comfortable with change and bring simplicity to complex situations or grey areaHumilityWe value humility; there is no room for egos hereYou’re not stubborn, you listen, take feedback/direction and respond quickly to changing direction.
