Environmental Health Associate – Direct Service Associate IIIVirginia Department of Health – West Piedmont-FranklinResponsibilitiesDraft schematic drawings for water, well, and septic system construction permits; take field notes or EHS field notes and information from plat and application; develop schematic for the permit package using CAD software.Complete various permit/certificate packages for EHS review and signature.Explain permit or certification requirements to others.Perform on-site monitoring of completed wells in uncomplicated situations; determine compliance of well location within permitted area and compliance with well construction techniques; report results to EHS.Monitor sites and collect soil and water samples in support of the sewage, swimming pool, and marina programs.Perform routine investigations of animal bites, monitor confined animals, remove animal heads for rabies examination and package for transport.Transport rabies, soils, and food specimens/samples.Perform other routine environmental investigations of low technical complexity in response to public health complaints such as verifying excessive grass height, observing open trash, confirming the presence of standing water, etc.Minimum QualificationsSkills in composition of reports, data entry, and effective communication.Proficiency in basic computer software programs.Ability to conduct inspections and investigations in all areas of environmental health, to work outdoors and perform moderately strenuous physical labor during all seasons.Skills in problem solving.Ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds.Valid State Driver's License is required to operate a state vehicle or a personal vehicle while conducting business on behalf of the agency.Additional ConsiderationsExperience in environmental health support.BenefitsHealth and life insurance, pre-tax spending accounts, state-funded short- and long-term disability, paid holidays, vacation, tuition assistance, free wellness programs, and a state retirement plan with options for tax-deferred retirement savings including employer matching.J-18808-Ljbffr
