Pediatric Dietitian (RD / RDN) – Outpatient PediatricsNaval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP), Portsmouth, VirginiaOverviewNaval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP) is a premier military medical facility providing comprehensive healthcare services to active-duty service members, their families, and beneficiaries.We are seeking a full-time Pediatric Dietitian (RD/RDN) to provide outpatient nutrition care in the Pediatric Clinic. This role focuses on infants, toddlers, children, and adolescents with acute and chronic medical conditions requiring specialized nutritional management. This is an on-site civilian position within a multidisciplinary military healthcare setting.Full-Time | On-SiteSchedule: Monday–FridayHours: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM40 hours per weekNo weekendsNo on-call requirementThe Pediatric Dietitian will provide comprehensive outpatient nutrition care to pediatric patients with a wide range of conditions, including:ObesityDiabetesFailure to ThriveCystic FibrosisCardiovascular DiseaseFood AllergiesGastrointestinal complicationsFeeding difficulties (with psychology consultation)Vitamin and mineral deficienciesEnteral and parenteral nutrition supportProvide diet counseling and nutrition care services to pediatric outpatients with complex dietary needsServe as the pediatric outpatient nutrition specialist for patients requiring disease-specific nutritional managementCollect and evaluate nutritionally relevant data, including medical history, medications, labs, dietary intake, and anthropometricsCalculate nutrient and energy intake values and analyze dietary history dataConduct in-depth diet history interviews with patients and caregiversEvaluate anthropometric data, laboratory values, and drug-nutrient interactionsDevelop individualized nutrition care plans based on disease state, nutrient metabolism, and nutritional statusImplement and modify dietary regimens upon physician or nurse practitioner consultAdjust dietary prescriptions in collaboration with providers as clinically indicatedPerform detailed dietary assessments, including 24-hour recalls and food frequency analysesModify dietary fiber, consistency, calories, carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and minerals as neededProvide alternative diet plans for food allergies, intolerances, or dietary preferences (e.g., vegetarian diets)Provide nutrition education and professional guidance to medical residents, interns, allied health professionals, dietetic students, and entry-level dietitiansServe as a liaison between the Nutrition Management Department and patients to support effective communication and care deliveryAssist with implementation and evaluation of Nutrition Management Department functionsMaintain required records, reports, and statistics in accordance with facility SOPsSupport development of assessment tools and education protocols for pediatric outpatient nutrition careParticipate in multidisciplinary care teams including physicians, nurses, social workers, and allied health professionalsDocument nutritional assessments, counseling, and follow-up outcomes in the medical recordCoordinate pediatric nutrition education materials and outpatient education activitiesParticipate in educational programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops related to pediatric conditions such as Asthma/Allergy and Cystic FibrosisExperienceMinimum two (2) years of pediatric nutrition experienceRegistrationCurrent credential as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)EducationBachelor's degree from an accredited college or universityCompletion of a didactic program in dietetics approved by CADE (ADA) or ACENDInternshipCompletion of a dietetic internship or pre-professional practice program approved by CADE or ACENDPreferred (Not Required)Certified Specialist in Pediatric Nutrition (CSP) through the Academy of Nutrition and DieteticsThis role offers the opportunity to specialize in pediatric outpatient nutrition within a structured military healthcare environment, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and maintain a predictable weekday schedule — all while making a meaningful impact on children's health.MDPerm is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
