JOB SUMMARYCamp Counselors serve as mentors responsible for the supervision, safety, and overall well-being of campers. They help create a safe, Christ-centered environment that promotes spiritual, social, and physical growth.This position is seasonal and may qualify under California's "organized camp counselor" provisions. Duties may require extended hours, including overnight supervision.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesCamper Care & SupervisionProvide continuous supervision of assigned campers, including overnight.Ensure camper safety, well-being, and participation in all activities.Maintain awareness of camper whereabouts at all times.Leadership & MentorshipModel strong Christian values and leadership.Build positive relationships with campers and foster inclusion.Encourage teamwork, respect, and personal growth.Program SupportAssist with daily camp activities, events, and schedules.Ensure campers arrive on time and participate fully.Support Activity Directors and program staff as needed.Activity OversightOversee and actively support all recreational and program activities, including but not limited to:Arts and CraftsLaser TagSwimming PoolGo KartsBMX BikingOutdoor Adventure ActivitiesBible StudiesBasketball and SoccerDynamic Worship ProgramsHikingAdditional activity responsibilities include:Ensure proper setup, operation, and cleanup of all activities.Maintain activity equipment and supplies in safe working condition.Verify that each activity area follows required safety protocols, certifications, and supervision ratios.Ensure lifeguard coverage at the pool, helmet use for biking, and safety checks for go karts, laser tag, and other equipment.Monitor camper participation and safety during all scheduled activities.Spiritual LeadershipLead daily devotions and spiritual discussions.Encourage campers in their faith development.Health & SafetyFollow all safety procedures and emergency protocols.Report injuries or illnesses immediately.Behavior ManagementAddress behavioral issues appropriately and respectfully.Partner with leadership for serious concerns.Administrative & ComplianceFollow all camp policies and required training.Participate in staff training prior to and during camp.Risk Management & Legal Compliance (California)Comply with California Health and Safety Code §§18897-18897.7 (Organized Camps).Follow all supervision ratios, emergency procedures, and safety protocols.Immediately report all accidents, injuries, hazards, or unsafe conditions.Mandated Reporter ResponsibilityServe as a Mandated Reporter under CANRA.Report suspected child abuse or neglect immediately.Complete required training prior to working with campers.Supervision Liability ExpectationsMaintain active and continuous supervision at all times.Failure to provide appropriate supervision may result in disciplinary action and potential personal liability.Assumption of RiskAcknowledge inherent risks including outdoor hazards, physical activity, and environmental exposure.Follow all training and safety procedures to minimize risk.Required QualificationsMinimum age: 18 yearsHigh school diploma or equivalentExperience working with youth preferredEmployment is contingent upon successful completion of Live Scan fingerprinting and background clearanceCertifications RequiredCPR/First Aid (provided by SCC)Background check clearance (provided by SCC)Mandated Reporter Training (On-line training)Lifeguard (provided by SCC)Physical RequirementsAbility to work outdoors for extended periodsAbility to lift up to 50 lbs.Work EnvironmentOutdoor settingExtended hours including overnight supervisionAcknowledgment of Safety Policies
