Whether you are early in your career or an expert in your field, you will find HSS an innovative, supportive and inclusive environment.Working with colleagues who love what they do and are deeply committed to our Mission, you too can be part of our transformation across the enterprise.Job SummaryThe HSS Orthopedics Now program provides consistent, immediate access for patients 12 years and older with an undiagnosed musculoskeletal injury or sudden onset of pain to be triaged, receive an initial diagnosis, and if appropriate, quickly connected to the right subspecialized level of care.The HSS Orthopedics Now Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) sees patients at an HSS location to triage, diagnose, treat, and when needed, refer patients to a higher level of care in an expedited timeframe.The NP/PA sees patients autonomously, in collaboration with, and with the support of HSS physicians. The NP/PA is an advanced practice provider who is licensed to practice their profession and provides a full range of primary, acute, and specialty healthcare services. The NP/PA is responsible for diagnosing and treating acute musculoskeletal injuries including, but not limited to:Bone, joint, or muscle injuriesStrains, sprains, minor dislocations, and closed fracturesPainful, swollen, or injured jointsBack and neck painOsteoarthritis (OA)Pediatric injuries (12 years of age and older)Sports InjuriesSteroid injections and joint aspirationsGeneral bracing and splintingJob QualificationsEducation RequiredBachelor's degreeMaster's degree Physician Assistant StudiesGraduate of CAAHEP accredited Physician Assistant Training ProgramBachelor's degree in NursingMaster's degree in NursingCertifications/Licensure RequiredActive license in New YorkCurrent NCCPA certification, including 100 hours of continuing medical education logged every 2 years and recertification taken and successfully passed every 6-10 yearsCurrent Infection Control CertificateCompletion of child abuse recognition courseACLS and BLS certification from the American Heart AssociationDEA licenseBoard certification in relevant specialty area from an agency accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties (e.g., ANCC, AANP)Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) requiredExperience RequiredAt least 2 years in musculoskeletal/orthopedic practiceExperience with injections, aspirations, and castingExperience Preferred1-2 Years practicing in an outpatient or ambulatory settingSports medicine and/or emergency medicine experienceSkills RequiredExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong customer service orientationCritical thinking, in-depth experience, professional knowledge in area of specialty; updated on the latest new, trends, and treatments.Time management/organization: handles and effectively manages a daily caseload; experience with varied work schedule (flexibility); adaptableCollaboration and teamwork: collaborate with clinical colleagues (MDs, PAs, NPs, RNs) for advisement when necessary; develop and coordinate appropriate plan of careInterpersonal: confident, works well under pressure, responsible, caring, sympathetic and compassionateMaintains proper patient recordsPerforms complete and accurate history and physical examsUtilizes evidence-based practiceCommitted to best practices; maintains clinical competencyPromotes quality healthcare; seeks to improve and impact clinical outcomesEngaged in self directed continued learning and professional developmentLeads and participates in both professional and lay healthcare forums, conducts research, and applies findings to clinical practiceSkills PreferredExperience with electronic health record (EPIC) preferredWorking ConditionsPhysical Working ConditionsContinuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20 to 50 lbs).Environmental Working ConditionsLocated in an indoor area with frequent exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise.
