Senior Software Engineer I (Java)The Senior Software Engineer I (Java) (Senior Software Engineer I (Historian)) is responsible for creating and maintaining software that is sold by Inductive Automation, LLC. They participate in all phases of product development, including design, specification, implementation, testing, building, deployment, documentation, support, and maintenance. This role may be required to interact with customers to troubleshoot products or obtain requirements.Note: This is a full-time, hybrid position with regular in-office collaboration, typically two days per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We're seeking candidates located in or near Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, Yolo, or Alameda Counties who can commute to our Folsom, CA office.ResponsibilitiesIndependently responsible for the entire lifecycle of projects or features including engineering design, development, and deploymentImproving code structure and architecture in service of testability and maintainabilityWriting, co-writing, and reviewing design documentationMaintaining high proficiency in one or more technical areasPrioritizing and valuing unowned or undesirable work that enables the team to move fasterEnsuring work meets quality standardWorking with their team and adjacent teams to solve problemsEscalating problems that have wider scopeAssisting and teaching other engineers on an individual basisCompleting thoughtful and constructive code reviews in a timely mannerResponsible for one or more product areas or other IC leadership role (Product Lead, Scrum Master)RequirementsRequired:3-5 years of software engineering or software development experience, preferably in a related fieldA comprehensive understanding of computer science concepts and ability to apply expertise in object-oriented design, multi-threaded architecture, data structures, algorithms, and cybersecurityHands-on programming experience using relevant languages (Java and/or Typescript)Experience using relevant tool suites. (IntelliJ or equivalent, Git, Webpack)Proficiency in SQL or a relational database (querying, schema design, stored procedures)Experience ingesting data at scale (high-volume, high-frequency, or streaming data pipelines)Creative problem-solving skillsPassionate about building applications that delight usersStrong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skillsExperience working on a team using agile methodologiesProper utilization of programming concepts to support highly responsive and performant applications, including concurrency and multi-threadingStrongly Preferred:Familiarity with time-series data concepts (compression, interpolation, aggregation, deadband)Knowledge of industrial data standards (OPC-DA, OPC-UA, MQTT, Modbus)Experience writing historian connectors, adapters, or APIsBackground in data pipeline or ETL development for operational data
