POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC

Job Title Power Generation Equipment Technician Duties Perform repairs on all types of power generation equipment. Troubleshoots, disassembles, rebuilds or makes comparable major repairs to powered support systems, including major components. Makes visual and auditory checks and uses test equipment such as volt meters, ohmeters, engine analyzers, compression gages and torque wrenches for repair and adjustment of supported equipment. Performs work in accordance with job orders and priorities established by supervisor. Performs additional repairs as required to assure the equipment is operational even when these repairs are not stated on the job order. Requests replacement parts for unserviceable equipment. Performs some maintenance at unit locations where supervisor/inspectors are not present. Repairs and rebuilds such equipment as motors, arc welder, load banks, electric forklifts, compressors, electric generating units converters, frequency changers, air conditioners, etc. Disassembles items to determine the nature and extent of repairs required. Tests armatures, stator windings, and excitor coils for shorts or open circuits and grounds. Troubleshoots and repairs circuit breakers for such faults as overheating, failure to trip, false tripping or failure to close, adjusts and replaces parts, cleans current carrying surfaces. Inspects and cleans parts, checks for cracks, stripped threads other mechanical damages. Checks for loose connections on electrical contacts. Replaces piping and valves as required. Tests, cleans and repairs high pressure compressors. Maintains and repairs pneumatic systems and components. Performs system repairs, to combination of components such: gasoline, diesel, multi-fuel or turbine engines: electrical systems; gears; combustion powered generators, compressors, welders, etc. Repairs and adjusts various types of electrical/mechanical equipment in accordance with manufacturers standards, technical manuals, technical bulletins and other DA publications. May be a member of the Maintenance Assistance Instruction Team (MAIT) or the Command Maintenance Evaluation Team (COMET). Performs other duties as assigned.
