Job Summary
The coordinator knits together the distinct social justice teams at First Parish to create a cohesive, mutually beneficial program that makes the term “Faith in Action” a living reality. Focusing closely on just one-third of our mission statement – “to help heal the world” – the coordinator deepens the congregation’s presence in the surrounding community through deepening its response to that community’s most pressing needs.
Essential Functions
Build connections across social justice teams, creating a sense of coherence and mutuality to help all teams become more effective.
Advise social justice teams to help deepen engagement in the congregation, especially during stand-alone opportunities such as marches, letter campaigns, and other actions.
Work with social justice teams and other volunteers to open the Parish Hall as a cooling/warming/bathroom location during marches and other actions.
Support leaders of the growing housing justice team, in collaboration with like-minded churches and organizations.
Support and deepen First Parish’s relationship with MUUSAN.
Advise the minister on the needs of the larger community and on how First Parish might address them.
Advise the minister on the complexities of city and state political and bureaucratic systems.
Other Responsibilities
Through October 2024, take the lead on First Parish involvement in UUtheVote.
Depending on experience and training, preach two or three times during the church year.
Participate in regular staff meetings to coordinate with membership, education, worship, and building use.
Network with other religious institutions to develop and share resources and efforts.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work and life experience.
Two years’ experience in organizing and activism.
Demonstrated leadership in a collaborative, mission-focused setting.
Physical Requirements
Able to move freely in public settings and in our accessible church building.
Able to speak in a public forum.

Hours and Salary
Contracted through June 30, 2025.
15 hours per week.
$22-$25/hour.
Paid every two weeks.
Hours are flexible and include the following:
Evening attendance at committee meetings as needed.
Bi-monthly attendance at staff meetings.
Attendance at special events and actions.
Monthly attendance at Sunday morning worship.
Remote work is possible after discussion.

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
