Precision Grinding Process Engineer

About the Role As a Precision Grinding Process Engineer, you will spearhead the advancement and refinement of complex ID, OD, and surface grinding operations for high-tolerance components. You will play a pivotal role in driving manufacturing excellence by optimizing cycle times, enhancing part quality, and implementing robust CNC grinding solutions within our prototype development environment. Responsibilities Design and validate advanced grinding processes for new product introductions and existing component lines. Engineer optimal grinding configurations, including wheel selection, dressing strategies, coolant application, and custom workholding. Author and refine CNC grinding programs to maximize throughput while maintaining stringent quality standards. Execute process trials and capability studies to ensure production readiness and consistent run-at-rate performance. Define critical process parameters such as feed rates, wheel speeds, and spark-out cycles to achieve design intent. Perform root-cause analysis to resolve manufacturing defects like chatter, burning, taper, or surface finish inconsistencies. Qualifications Required Skills Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in precision ID/OD grinding environments. Deep technical expertise in CNC grinding equipment, abrasives, and dressing technologies. Proficiency in interpreting complex engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications. Advanced capability with precision measurement tools including profilometers, air gauges, and roundness testers. Strong analytical mindset with a proven track record of troubleshooting process variation. Preferred Skills Direct experience with Studer CNC grinding platforms. Demonstrated success in collaborative cross-functional engineering or production teams. Advanced understanding of material science as it relates to grinding wheel wear and coolant chemistry.
