Role Summary10+YearsWe are looking for a Java Backend Developer to join a product engineering team. The engineer will design and build backend services and APIs using modern Java technologies and AI-assisted development practices. The role requires strong hands-on engineering skills and the ability to use AI coding assistants effectively for development, testing, debugging, documentation, and code modernization without compromising engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices.
- Translate product requirements into technical designs and working software.
- Use AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot or equivalent, as part of day-to-day engineering.
- Apply AI assistance for:
- Code generation and refactoring
- Unit and integration test generation
- Code comprehension and documentation
- Debugging and root-cause analysisAPI development and boilerplate reduction
- Legacy code analysis and modernization
- Review and validate AI-generated code for correctness, security, maintainability, and performance.
- Develop automated unit and integration tests.
- Integrate applications with APIs, databases, and messaging platforms.
- Participate in architecture, design, backlog refinement, and code reviews.
- Troubleshoot application, integration, and production issues.
- Mentor engineers on Java engineering and effective AI-assisted development practices.
- Own features from technical design through production deployment.
Required Skills:
7+ years of Java/backend development experience.
Strong hands-on experience with Java 11/17+.Strong experience with Spring Boot and Spring Framework.
Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
Strong understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, and clean-code practices.
Experience with SQL and relational databases.
Experience with JUnit, Mockito, or similar testing frameworks.
Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
Practical experience using AI coding assistants as part of software development.
Ability to critically review AI-generated code rather than accepting generated output without validation.
Strong debugging and production troubleshooting skills.
Understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, exception handling, and API security.
Preferred Skills:
GitHub Copilot or similar AI development tools.
Prompting techniques for software engineering tasks.
AI-assisted test generation and code review.
Kafka or other event-driven/messaging platforms.
Docker and Kubernetes.
AWS, Azure, or other cloud platforms.
Observability and application monitoring.
Experience with high-volume, transaction-oriented systems.
Financial services, fintech, securities processing, or wealth-management experience.
