Analyst, Innovative Public Schools OVERVIEW Nationally recognized nonprofit venture philanthropy seeks an Analyst to support its schools’ investment area focused on finding, funding and supporting the next generation of innovative public schools in PK-12 education. RESPONSIBILITIES The Innovative Public Schools team seeks an Analyst to join a passionate and dedicated group of people. You will be a critical member of the team, focused on supporting all strategic data efforts of the Innovative Public Schools investment area. You will report to Ariana Valenzuela, Partner. You will work cross-functionally in our organization to support diligence, research and learning, operations, and grant making efforts. You will work remotely from anywhere in the U.S. This role requires up to 25% of travel for in-person team meetings, retreats and conferences. Your legacy at NewSchools will include: Owning the data management life cycle for the Schools team to ensure we are capturing the most important, reliable data. Review and update multiple databases ensuring accuracy and integrity across all data sources. Develop and maintain tools and processes that ensure we collect data specific to our key metrics of success, such as our logic model and org objectives and key results (OKRs). Ensure other members of the team are capturing updates to data regularly and with accuracy. Leading the team to analyze and understand data to inform key insights about our work. Develop planning, analysis tools, data visualizations to lead the insight generation process and identification of portfolio bright spots. Ensure the insights account for historical, contextual, and comparative data and perspectives. Standardize the cadence, tools, and inquiry activities that guide continuous learning, in line with our model and how we approach our work. Providing support and technical expertise to the selection and diligence process. Manage all application and diligence data associated with the Schools’ investment processes and funding opportunities. Engage in due diligence including application review, interviews, and ad hoc diligence to inform investment decisions. Conduct diligence analyses and synthesize team findings in written investment recommendations. Collaborate effectively and efficiently with other teams across NewSchools and our external partners. Work in partnership with our research and learning team to elevate key metrics that are supportive of our broader research strategy. Contribute to our development efforts by providing requested information and analysis to inform grant requests and funder reports. Work in partnership with the Operations and Finance teams to support the grants management process within the Salesforce platform. Managing communication with ventures and external partners as needed; overseeing Schools’ team inbox. SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS At least 2 years experience in data analytic roles Experience working with complex data sets and ownership of end to end data processes (collection, auditing, analysis, meaning making) Excellent written and oral communication skills; proven ability to develop and present professional materials (e.g. spreadsheets, written memos, presentations) and communicate effectively with wide variety of people at all levels, internally and externally Demonstrated track record of working with high levels of excellence; High comfort with ambiguity and tolerance for risk Ability to influence without authority and commitment to high quality conversational capacity and communication skills Belief in the power of philanthropy to create momentum for systems level change and a deep network across k-12 education, especially talent organizations Ability to toggle between operating at the strategic and implementation levels. Comfort working in a small organization and team A high degree of self-awareness and a demonstrated commitment to learning and continuous improvement Effective project management with attention to detail and ability to drive to completion Strong strategic thinking and analysis skills Proficiency with Google Suite and MS Office products (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Excel), experience with data science tools (e.g. Airtable, excel) relational database, business intelligence, and data visualizations tools preferred but not required Ability to work across lines of difference and with people who are different from themselves Ability to travel up to 25% for in-person team meetings, retreats and conferences COMPENSATION The starting salary range for this position is $83,000 - $105,000 with the potential for up to 5% annual bonus.
