Health Information Management Coder
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:Responsible for assisting in day-to-day operations of the HIM Department. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Answering phone calls; scanning documents; emptying bindersReviews medical documentation and reviews assigned medical codesTracking, processing, and evaluating requests for release of information (ROI)Demonstrates knowledge in HIPAA standardsDemonstrates knowledge of existing and emerging requirements related to privacy and confidentiality of health informationFollows all policies, protocols, and standards of the HIM processDemonstrates the ability to gather data, compile information for the preparation of reportsRequirementsQualifications and Experience:High school diploma, GED or equivalent requiredCoding Certification RequiredMinimum one (1) year administrative experience preferredPrevious experience in a psychiatric setting preferredAbility to maintain information as highly confidentialKnowledge of applicable laws, standards, and regulations affecting health information systems, specifically in behavioral health service areasPhysical Requirements:While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following:Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time. Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population. Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy. Perform complex mental functions and basic arithmetic functions; interpret complex laws, regulations, and policies; collect, interpret, and/or analyze complex data and informationVision: see details of objects at close rangeCoordinate multiple tasks simultaneously. Reach forward, up, down, and to the side.
