Telecom Technician - O&M Specialist

Position Overview North Slope Telecom, Inc. is hiring a Telecom Technician to join our Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team supporting critical telecommunications infrastructure across the North Slope oil field. This position plays a key role in the ongoing operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of diverse telecom systems across remote and industrial work sites. The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting and maintaining systems such as VoIP, wireless access points, microwave radio links, RF communications, and related telecom systems in support of oil field and industrial operations. This is a hands-on field role requiring a motivated, adaptable technician who works well independently and as part of a small team. Success in this position will rely heavily on the candidate’s ability to learn, problem-solve, communicate well with others, and maintain a positive and proactive attitude. Key Responsibilities Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot telecom systems including: VoIP systems, two-way radios, microwave radios. Wireless access points, structured cabling, switches, and routers. Telecom infrastructure supporting remote oilfield and industrial operations. Perform diagnostics, replace failed components, and execute field-level repairs or configurations. Conduct radio programming (Motorola, Aviat, etc.) and assist with microwave link tuning and validation. Perform rooftop, manlift, platform, and occasional light tower work for inspections, repairs, or system access. Respond to O&M service tickets with high reliability and field-level problem solving. Maintain accurate documentation including site visit reports, configuration logs, redlines, and site photos. Work closely with engineers, project managers, and client personnel to resolve field-level technical issues. Follow all safety protocols, job safety assessments (JSAs), and NSTI work procedures. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in telecommunications, IT, RF systems, or structured cabling. Familiarity with VLANs and network fundamentals (Layer 2 vs Layer 3 concepts, trunk vs access ports). Basic routing/switching configuration concepts. Wireless and RF troubleshooting. Basic knowledge of radio programming, network troubleshooting, structured cabling, and microwave systems. Ability to read and redline telecom drawings. Willingness to travel, live onsite during rotational schedules, and work independently in remote environments. Strong attention to detail, documentation skills, and follow-through. Must hold or be able to obtain a valid Climb and Rescue certification (light tower work, manlift, rooftop platform access required). Preferred Qualifications Climb and Rescue certification already obtained. Hands-on experience with spectrum analyzers, Anritsu sweep gear, or similar test equipment. Experience with fiber splicing and fiber optic testing. Familiarity with Motorola or Aviat radio systems. Prior oilfield telecom, O&M, or industrial field experience.
