Position Summary:
Delphi Community School Corporation is seeking a visionary and highly organized Director of Childcare Center to lead a high-quality early childhood program serving children birth through preschool age 4 (by August 1).
This position provides leadership for the daily operations, staffing, programming, and compliance of the childcare center while ensuring a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment. The Director will establish strong partnerships with families, collaborate with district administrators, and help create a seamless early learning pathway from birth through K-12. The Director plays a critical role in supporting working families, promoting school readiness, and advancing the district's commitment to early childhood excellence.
Essential Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Operations
Provide overall leadership and daily management of the childcare center.
Ensure compliance with all Indiana childcare licensing regulations and safety requirements.
Maintain appropriate child/staff ratios, documentation, and operational procedures.
Develop schedules, routines, and program structures that support child development.
Oversee enrollment, attendance, and program records.
Staff Leadership
Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate childcare staff.
Build a positive, professional team culture focused on high-quality care.
Provide coaching and ongoing professional learning.
Ensure staff meet licensing and training requirements.
Curriculum & Child Development
Oversee implementation of developmentally appropriate practices for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.
Support early learning experiences that promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
Monitor classroom quality and ensure alignment with early childhood best practices.
Family & Community Engagement
Serve as the primary point of communication with families.
Build strong partnerships through regular communication and family engagement opportunities.
Collaborate with district leadership and community partners to enhance childcare services.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure adherence to Indiana licensing rules, health and safety standards, and emergency procedures.
Maintain required records and documentation.
Coordinate with district administration on policies, procedures, and reporting.
Fiscal & Administrative Management
Assist with budgeting and resource management.
Oversee supplies, purchasing, and facility needs.
Support sustainability and long-term program growth.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education Leadership, or related field (Master's preferred).
Experience in early childhood education and leadership.
Knowledge of Indiana childcare licensing standards and early childhood regulations.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with families, staff, and community partners.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Minimum age 21 (state requirement for many director roles).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing a licensed childcare center.
Experience working within or alongside a public school system.
Knowledge of Paths to QUALITY or other early childhood quality frameworks.
Budget oversight and staff supervision experience.
Work Schedule
Year-round position aligned with childcare center hours.
Occasional evening or community events may be required.
