We focus on long-term partnerships, not transactional placements.POSITION OVERVIEWCTA is seeking experienced Product Developers (Advanced) — working as Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) Developers — to drive development of data integration pipelines within an enterprise data warehouse / data lake on Microsoft Azure for a state government client. The role works across an Azure stack including Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse, Power BI, and Azure Purview, transforming complex datasets into actionable business insights.SCOPE OF WORKETL Developers will lead the design and development of high-performing ETL processes integrating and transforming data across disparate sources, deliver efficient and reliable pipelines on Azure, manage data quality and validation, optimize ETL job performance, embed security and compliance practices using Azure Purview for governance and lineage, and act as technical leaders mentoring junior team members. The role is designated as essential staff.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES• Lead the design and development of high-performing ETL processes to integrate and transform data across disparate sources.• Deliver efficient, reliable pipelines that meet business needs and maintain the highest standards of security.• Utilize Azure Data Factory (ADF) to automate and streamline data workflows, ensuring smooth transitions from source to target.• Build and manage complex ETL workflows that extract, transform, and load data for downstream analytics and reporting; ensure data is accurate, timely, and secure.• Take ownership of data quality and validation, creating resilient ETL processes that ensure only trusted data reaches its destination.• Leverage the Azure ecosystem (ADF, Databricks, Synapse, Purview) to manage and process high volumes of structured and unstructured data, delivering scalable, performance-optimized solutions.• Integrate large datasets into Azure Synapse Analytics, enabling analytics teams to deliver data-driven insights.• Continuously optimize ETL jobs to minimize latency and maximize throughput; ensure architecture supports fast, reliable data access.• Embed security and compliance best practices in every step of the ETL process; protect sensitive data per client data-governance policies; use Azure Purview to enforce governance and track data lineage.• Partner with cross-functional teams (data engineers, analysts, business stakeholders, security experts) to design and implement ETL solutions.• Act as a technical leader and mentor, guiding junior team members on data processing and transformation best practices.• Develop and maintain clear, detailed documentation for ETL processes; establish and enforce best practices for data handling, ETL development, and security.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field — OR four (4) years of equivalent work experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.• A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in ETL development and data engineering, with at least three (3) years of hands-on experience working with Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure Purview.• Proven track record of building and optimizing large-scale ETL pipelines for high-performance, high-availability environments.• Expertise in Spark, Python, and/or Scala for large-scale data transformations.• Strong Structured Query Language (SQL) proficiency and experience working with complex data structures.• In-depth knowledge of data governance, security protocols, and role-based access control (RBAC) within the Azure ecosystem.• Ability to design ETL processes that are resilient, efficient, and fully compliant with regulatory standards.• Must successfully complete a background check.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS• Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate.• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.• Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals.• Databricks Certified: Data Engineer Associate.JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES• Knowledge of Azure data services architecture (ADF, Databricks, Synapse, Purview).• Knowledge of data governance, lineage, and RBAC patterns within the Azure ecosystem.• Skill in designing and optimizing large-scale ETL pipelines for performance and reliability.• Skill in Spark, Python, and/or Scala for large-scale data transformations.• Ability to mentor junior team members and enforce data engineering best practices.• Ability to deliver ETL solutions that meet stringent security and regulatory standards.ADDITIONAL NOTES• Successful candidate must complete client-required security awareness training within 30 calendar days of hire.• Position is designated as "essential staff" and must be available during emergency activations.• Billable hours are limited to 40 per week unless pre-approved by designated client leadership.• Travel is not reimbursable unless specifically authorized in writing by client leadership.
