Back-End/Infra Engineer (Kubernetes / Node.js)

Who We're Looking For8+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Infrastructure or Platform EngineeringStrong backend engineering skills: API design, Postgres, Kafka/NatsNode.js/Go/Python backgroundExperience with AWS/GCP/AzureAdvanced experience with Kubernetes, including creating tools, controllers, or operators that extend its capabilitiesExperience with all the standard Kubernetes tools: Networking (ingress controllers, CoreDNS, external-dns, AWS LB, oauth2-proxy)Secret management (Vault, External Secrets)Cluster autoscaling and resource tuning (Karpenter, VPA, goldilocks, KEDA)Storage provisioningExperience with Helm charts and GitOpsExperience working with and maintaining large k8s clusters: 1000 nodes, 30k+ podsExcellent system design and problem-solving skillsStrong communication and collaboration abilities across multiple teamsHands-on mindset, comfortable working in complex and evolving environmentsWhat You'll DoDesign, build, and maintain the control plane that powers hundreds of dynamic developer sandboxesDevelop backend tooling and services that automate sandbox creation, orchestration, and lifecycle managementProductize and provide infrastructure as a platform including DBs, caches, object storage and queueing systemsScale & tune the cluster to provide capacity for volatile workloads. You'll become hands on with Karpenter/VPA/KEDA policies, right-sizing, pod density, bin-packing, and scheduling strategies for diverse, bursty workloadsConstantly track and optimize costs to be efficient. At our k8s scale all tiny decisions matter, from compute to storage and data transferOwn the networking setup to mimic what we have in production but pair it with greater DevEx at scale of hundreds of sandboxes – traffic routing and interception, ingress tuning, serving assetsImplement and evolve observability within sandboxesPartner with Sandboxes SRE team to ensure uptime and reliability of hundreds of sandboxes dailyWork with Deel engineering to improve their DevEx and productize day-to-day needs into self-service platformExtra Brownie Points If You…Have built internal developer platforms (in-house or with tools like Okteto, Gitpod, Crafting) or Kubernetes operatorsHave production experience with Postgres Operators, e.g. CloudNativePG or ZalandoHave multi-region and multi-cloud experienceTotal RewardsOur workforce deserves fair and competitive pay that meets them where they are.
