Salary Information$8,367 - $10,680 approximate monthly / $48.27 - $61.62 approximate hourly.About the PositionUnder general direction of the HHSA Public Health Branch Lab Director, the Public Health Assistant Laboratory Director assists with planning, organizing, directing and carrying out the activities of the Public Health Laboratory, a Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) accredited laboratory performing high-complexity testing in compliance with CLIA '88; and related duties as assigned. This position is an unclassified, at-will position.ResponsibilitiesAssists with planning, development, implementation, and oversight of public health laboratory programs, services, and activities; reviews, recommends and implements policy and procedural changes; analyzes statistical and fiscal data and operational problems to develop operating procedures; ensures that testing systems provide quality laboratory services; ensures that the physical plant and environmental conditions of the laboratory are appropriate; provides a safe environment; ensures that test methodologies selected provide the required quality of results; ensures that verification procedures are adequate; ensures that laboratory personnel perform test methods correctly; ensures enrollment in proficiency testing programs; manages corrective action plans; maintains quality control and assurance programs; oversees selection of laboratory services and recommends laboratory fees; assists with contract administration and budgeting; oversees inventory control; provides leadership; integrates laboratory activities with other branches; assists in seeking and maintaining public health accreditation; serves on or chairs committees; and performs other duties as required.Minimum QualificationsDoctoral degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, with a letter of approval to train as a Public Health Microbiologist from the California Department of Public Health Laboratory Field Services; ORCertification as a Public Health Microbiologist from the state of California and at least three years of experience in a public health laboratory.Special RequirementsCertification as a Public Health Microbiologist by the California Laboratory Field Services.Possession of a valid California driver's license.Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentThe physical demands include standing, using hands, talking, occasional walking, sitting, reaching, climbing, stooping, crouching; occasionally lifting up to 30 pounds. The employee must have close and color vision.
