Accounting Assistant
Job overview:
The Accounting Assistant provides support to Habitat for Humanity’s Finance Department, offers solutions to problems presented, and recommends changes while utilizing knowledge of proper accounting principles and practices. This position will report directly to the Controller and will be instrumental in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of financial operations.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Provide comprehensive accounting and clerical support to the Finance Department
Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and issues
Maintain and organize files and records in line with company procedures
Keep Certificates of Insurance and W9s current; interact with vendors as necessary
Assist with the preparation of month-end and annual closing of the books
Maintain Land, CIP, and Mortgage roll forward schedules
Assist with the posting of invoices into the accounting system; follow up with vendors to ensure timely invoicing and payments
Ensure compliance with internal controls and financial policies
Prepare reconciliations and assist with audit preparation
Manage data entry and review expense reports as needed
Qualifications:
Preferred, degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant experience
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
Experience and Skills:
Intermediate knowledge of Excel, Word, Microsoft Office
Experience with Quick Books or relevant Accounting Software
Ability to work in a team environment independently
Familiar with bookkeeping and basic accounting procedures
Ability to create ad hoc reports
Well organized with great attention to detail
Effective oral and written communication skills
