Job Title: Firefighter / EMT
Department: Fire & Emergency Services
Reports To: Fire Captain
FLSA Status: Exempt
Schedule: 24-hour shifts, rotating schedule, holidays and weekends required
Position Summary
The Firefighter / EMT responds to emergency and non-emergency calls involving fire suppression, medical emergencies, rescue operations, hazardous conditions, and public safety incidents. This role requires physical stamina, sound judgment under pressure, teamwork, and the ability to follow established protocols and safety standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies, rescues, and hazardous material incidents
Perform fire suppression, ventilation, search and rescue, and overhaul operations
Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) and emergency medical care as an EMT
Operate fire apparatus, tools, pumps, ladders, and rescue equipment
Conduct inspections of hydrants, buildings, and fire equipment
Participate in regular drills, training exercises, and continuing education
Maintain accurate incident and medical reports
Perform station maintenance and equipment upkeep
Educate the public on fire safety and prevention
Work collaboratively within a team under stressful conditions
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Valid driver’s license
EMT-B certification (current)
Firefighter I & II certification
Ability to pass physical agility test and medical evaluation
Ability to lift 75+ lbs and work in extreme environments
Preferred Qualifications
EMT-P (Paramedic) certification
HazMat Operations certification
2+ years firefighting experience
Experience operating fire apparatus
ICS/NIMS training
