KISD Culinary Arts TeacherJob Title: Career and Technical Education- Culinary ArtsExemption Status/Test: Exempt/ProfessionalReports to: PrincipalDate Revised: 1/2025Dept./School: Keene High SchoolPrimary Purpose:Provide students with instruction in the area of culinary skills, food safety and sanitation, kitchenmanagement, nutrition and food production techniques. The Teacher will foster a hands-on, engaginglearning environment that prepares students for careers in the food service industry, includingentry-level and advanced culinary education. The role includes classroom teaching, lab-basedinstruction and guidance for students pursuing certification and internships in the culinary arts field.Qualifications:Education/Certification:Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or related field.Valid Texas teaching certification for Career and Technical Education in Culinary Arts.Demonstrated competency in the Career and Technical Education subject area assignedSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, kitchen safety and nutrition.Ability to develop and implement a hands-on curriculum and instruction.Ability to instruct students and manage their behaviorAbility to oversee student field experiences in career area assignedProficiency in the use of kitchen equipment and technology used in food service education.Experience:At least 2 years of professional culinary industry experience, including experience in food preparation,kitchen management and food safety.Prior teaching or training experiences in a classroom or culinary setting preferred.Major Responsibilities and Duties:Instructional Strategies1. Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)standard for culinary arts. Fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show writtenevidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that provide both theoretical and practicalinstruction in areas such as food preparation, kitchen equipment usage, baking, sanitation andnutrition.2. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, andtechnology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned andpresent subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies,and administrative regulations.3. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.4. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for specialeducation students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).5. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods accordingto district requirements.6. Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.Student Growth and Development7. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.8. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved bythe campus principal.9. Present a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.10. Provide mentorship to students interested in pursuing careers in culinary arts, offering advice oncareer pathways, certifications and internships.11. Help students develop job readiness skills, including time management, communication andteamwork.Classroom Management and Organization12. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, andemotional development of students. Supervise students during both instructional and laboratorysettings, ensuring adherence to safety protocol and best practices.13. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.14. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.15. Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.16. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.Communication17. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students,colleagues, and community members.Professional Growth and Development18. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.19. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.20.
