What is the position?The Engineering Technician serves as a technical specialist supporting automation systems for commissioning, startup, and operational readiness across power and energy infrastructure projects. This role provides expertise in control systems, testing, troubleshooting, and system integration while partnering with engineering, construction, operations, and equipment vendors to ensure safe and successful project execution.What are the responsibilities?As an Engineering Technician, you will:Support commissioning, startup, and operational activities for automation and control systems within energy infrastructure projects.Assist with factory and site acceptance testing, system turnover, punch-list resolution, and commissioning readiness activities.Develop and execute commissioning procedures, testing plans, and automation validation protocols.Coordinate with engineering, construction, operations, and equipment manufacturers to ensure systems meet design and operational expectations.Troubleshoot PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA-related issues during energization and startup activities.Review project risks, identify performance concerns, and recommend solutions that improve reliability and operational efficiency.Maintain commissioning documentation, turnover packages, configuration records, and automation standards.Support operator training, knowledge transfer efforts, cybersecurity initiatives, and control system lifecycle activities.What are the requirements?High School Diploma or GED required, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline preferred.8+ years of progressive experience in power generation, energy infrastructure, industrial automation, or commissioning environments.Strong knowledge of PLCs, DCS platforms, SCADA systems, and HMI applications.Experience with communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 61850.Familiarity with commissioning processes, turnover documentation, redline reviews, and system validation activities.Understanding of industry standards and safe work practices related to power and energy systems.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and field reporting/documentation tools.Experience with automation configuration management and version control platforms such as AssetCentre or similar systems.Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities with a commitment to safety.You would be really happy here if:You can be counted on in crucial times possessing great focus while completing projects successfully and efficiently.Roadblocks don’t intimidate you.
