We are seeking an experienced engineering manager with a background in large-scale distributed systems and data platform engineering in hyper-scale environments. This is a technical, hands‐on leadership role in a dynamic and fast‐paced environment. The successful candidate will lead a world‐class team building the foundational infrastructure and core capabilities that power Apple's security data platform.DescriptionApple Information Security is seeking an extraordinary individual to lead the Platform Technologies team — an engineering team responsible for the foundational ecosystem and core capabilities that power our security monitoring. Platform Technologies designs and develops solutions that enable mission‐critical capabilities across the organization, delivering advanced query and indexing capabilities, core platform libraries and APIs, and data integration services that teams depend on to build and operate effectively at scale. This role works closely with peer engineering teams and partner organizations across Apple to ensure the successful design, development, and delivery of platform capabilities. The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in distributed systems and data infrastructure, a track record of leading high‐performing engineering teams, and the ability to drive a long‐term technical vision while executing near‐term results.Minimum Qualifications10+ years of industry experience, including 3+ years of management experience leading software engineering teamsStrong software design, problem solving, and debugging skills with hands‐on experience in distributed systems or large‐scale data infrastructureProficiency in one or more of the following languages: Scala, Python, Go, Swift, or JavaExperience building or operating data lake, lakehouse, or large‐scale analytics platforms (e.g., Spark, Databricks, Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg)Proven track record of shipping high‐quality, production‐grade services and platformsStrong written and verbal communication: actively listens and communicates clearly and proactively, adapting content and style for diverse audiences including junior engineers, senior staff, and partner teamsPreferred QualificationsFamiliarity with indexing and search technologies such as Apache Lucene or ElasticsearchExperience with cloud infrastructure and managed services on AWS (S3, RDS, EKS) or other cloud platformsExperience with data governance, access control, and multi‐tenant platform designExposure to GenAI or ML platform engineering, including vector databases, RAG architectures, or LLM‐based toolingPassion for high‐quality code, tests, CI/CD, documentation, and production servicesExperience successfully adapting and applying Scrum/Agile development methodologiesAbility to cultivate an environment that emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and technical excellenceThrives in a fast‐paced environment and adopts a learning mindset; passion for emerging technologiesTrack record of driving improvements in platform reliability, performance, and scalabilityAbility to work under pressure and successfully manage difficult situations in a dynamic environmentBackground in information security, security operations, or security data platforms is a plusAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $228,100 and $342,800, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.
