POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: Teen Court Coordinator PERFORMANCE PROFILE SOURCE: Specialist DEPARTMENT: Teen Services Department REPORTS TO: Senior Teen Services Director FLSA STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt PAY: $21.00/hour PRIMARY FUNCTION: Plans, implements, supervises and evaluates the Teen Court program and subsidiary program activities, leading to the priority outcomes of Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles. The Program Coordinator also provides leadership and indirect supervision to assigned program staff and volunteers associated with Teen Court and T3. Note: this is a grant-funded position. Annual renewal is contingent on continuation of grant funding. JOB SUMMARY: Teen Court is a restorative justice program for teenagers who are first time or low level offenders (graffiti, truancy, etc.) The Boys & Girls Club (BGC) assembles a jury of teens who listen to each case and then, with the guidance of legal professionals, determine a contract with sanctions for the offender to complete. After successfully completing their service, each offender then participates as a juror for future trials. Goals of Teen Court include reducing the number of repeat offenders, providing youth an opportunity to learn from their actions, expunging records and engaging youth offenders in BGC programming. KEY ROLES: Prepare Youth for Success Implement programs, services and activities that prepare youth for success, promoting safety of members and quality in programs at all times. Provide guidance and role modeling to members. Planning, organizing, implementing and recommending a range of program services and activities; intake meetings, court hearings, expunction assistance, industry/college tours, etc. Promoting and stimulating program participation by case management. Ensure quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals, recommending modifications that respond to member needs and interests and participating in weekly staff meetings. Health and Safety Ensure a healthy environment. promoting safety of members and ensuring quality in programs at all times for all participants, including youth serving at off-site placements. Manage facilities and ensure a productive work environment, maintaining an inventory of all program equipment and supplies in good order. Recommend requisitions, as necessary; controlling expenditures against monthly supply budget. Program Development and Implementation Manage administrative systems by tracking volunteers, participants, and activities Liaison between Marion County Juvenile Department, youth, families, legal professionals, etc. Collaborates with Teen Services department staff to host events including, but not limited to: service events, college tours, industry tours, career exploration, and workforce development opportunities. Integrates Salem Teen Court participants into BGC programing and events as it pertains to participant goals: T3 workshops and industry/college tours. Manage assigned program grants and reporting. Prepares and runs court hearings. Assists as needed in fundraising events for Teen Court (Teen Court Luncheon). Supervision Recruit, train and manage assigned volunteers; provide ongoing feedback; and identify and support development opportunities. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Will serve as lead staff for special programs and/or events throughout the year. Required to drive Club van. RELATIONSHIPS: Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisors to receive and provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines and instructions; and offer instruction and advise/counsel. External: Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, youth's parents and supervisors to assist in expanding opportunities. Recruit volunteers to serve as court Judges, Jury Facilitators, and Jury Members. Maintain ongoing communication with Marion County Juvenile Department regarding cases, expungement, recidivism data, and other pertinent information for Teen Court. Serve as a community liaison in scheduling and implementation of program activities. SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in related field, plus a minimum of two years’ experience in planning and implementing programs targeting teens is preferred. Education may be substituted for work experience on a case-by-case basis. Prior experience providing case management for youth with barriers to success. Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and facilitate programs for youth grades 6-12. Ability to train, supervise, and motivate staff. Ability to speak in public, with prior experience presenting in individual and group settings. Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment. Proficient in computer use, Zoom Video Program, Microsoft Office suite applications and Google Drive. Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications (within 90 days). Valid State Driver’s License. Ability to pass drug test and background check. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. Prior experience working with grant-funded programs preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT: Ability to speak, hear, and maintain high mental and visual attention at all times. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, be able to stand and sit for extended periods and be able to walk moderate distances. Ability to travel between locations and attend meetings outside of regular operating hours. Ability to drive a 14 passenger bus, with a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
