Position SummaryThe Switchboard Telephone Operator / Emergency Dispatcher provides continuous, professional telephone and emergency communication services for the Northport VA Medical Center. The operator serves as a critical first point of contact for patients, staff, visitors, and emergency responders, ensuring timely call handling, accurate routing, and immediate response to emergency situations in accordance with VA policies and procedures.Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesAnswer all incoming calls within three (3) rings in a courteous, professional mannerRoute calls accurately to appropriate departments, clinics, wards, or personnelAssist with authorized local, long-distance, conference, collect, and international callsOperate Cisco Webex and Cisco Finesse telephone systemsMaintain call logs and long-distance recordsReceive and prioritize emergency calls and alarmsActivate Code Blue, overhead paging, radio, and crisis pager systemsDispatch Police, Fire, Medical, and Emergency communicationsEnsure confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and Privacy ActQualifications RequiredHigh school diploma or equivalentMinimum one (1) year experience in switchboard, call center, or emergency communicationsAbility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and federal holidaysStrong verbal communication skillsAbility to work calmly under pressureQualifications PreferredHospital or medical center experienceGovernment or VA facility experienceMulti-line telephone or paging system experienceTraining RequirementsCompletion of VA orientation and system trainingMinimum one (1) full week of on-the-job training per shift before independent dutyOngoing training per VA directivesSecurity RequirementsMust pass VA background investigationMust obtain VA-issued identification badgePI63fa66f3798d-26289-40341347
