DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position focuses on maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles and construction equipment used in daily transportation operations. The work supports safe and dependable fleet performance essential to public service. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties: Equipment Repair: Repair and overhaul vehicles, construction machinery, and motorized hand tools Preventative Maintenance: Carry out routine servicing, diagnostics, and adjustments to ensure peak equipment performance State Inspections: Complete safety and emissions inspections, perform required repairs, and document all findings Troubleshooting Work: Identify problems using diagnostic tools and determine appropriate repair methods Safety Practices: Maintain a safe work area, follow proper procedures, and report hazards or injuries immediately Record Keeping: Maintain accurate equipment records, work orders, and documentation of repairs Interested in learning more? Work Schedule and Additional Information Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Travel, overtime and shift work required. Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Special Requirements This position requires possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License on the first day of employment. This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment. This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment. This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) on the first day of employment. This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation's New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
